I've got to give Cuomo credit because I did not think he would make it to today. He knows the most important lesson of American public life: you never admit anything, even if there is video of you doing it. He still has to avoid dying the slow death by investigation though, and his political power May effectively be neutered at this point.

I wonder who the next Governor will be? There is not a singular wedge issue like the death penalty when our last Republican governor was elected oh, so I still don't think a republican can win.

I don't think the BO route is favorable...especially next season when if bought out it would only save $1m.
Retirement with recapture penalty is a much better route, but he would have to agree to walking away from $..which is doubtful unless other options were available to him to recover some of that lost earnings.

- IonSabres

I don't believe it works the way you think it does.

What I'm seeing is the following for the next 4 seasons if they bought out Okposo after this season:

21-22: Salary = $1M, Cap Hit = $3M, Cap Savings = $3M
22-23: Same as above
23-24: Salary = $1M, Cap Hit = $1M, Cap Savings = -$1M
24-25: Same as above

Are you watching the games? He is actually playing pretty well. He isn't part of the problem.... it's just that he makes too much. There are far bigger fish to fry.
- Slump Buster

Not really. Is anyone ? I tried watching them, but they're pretty much unwatchable now. I DVR the games, watch later, fast-forward through 95% of it. Did anyone watch the full game yesterday ? If so, you're a saint.

I just can't get past Okposo's salary. For example, even if he was the best shut-down player in the league (hey, it's something), he's still not worth it. I don't really care if he's playing "ok" right now. I need instant results (goals and overall points) for what's being paid. We have lost out big-time on that contract so far.

You're right, there are bigger fish to fry, but the topic at the time of my original response was about Okposo.

Where is the last column that shows Cap Hit for each year...
I just did BO dates of 6/15, 7/15, 8/15 in CF and all 3 showed 1st year as $5m Cap Hit.

Of course he isn't worth it, even if he is playing pretty well. The question isn't "is he worth it". The question is "is it worth cutting him and taking the cap hit for several years" and the answer is easily "no".

It isn't like he is hurting them out there - that's what I don't get. He has actually played pretty well. Moulson couldn't skate well enough to stay on the top lines and could never play in the bottom 6 as that wasn't his game. Okposo has actually been pretty good in the bottom 6 over the last couple of years.

The bonus is included in the figures I shared as from what I read, the signing bonus isn't part of the cap hit.

The Buyout route is tough, because the contract was purposely written that way to make a BO unattractive.
Realistically, they have to get him to accept an early retirement where the Recapture Penalty is far more forgiving on the Cap. But, since he walks away from all of the earnings in that case, Kerry and Tim would need to compensate him somehow..wink, wink..nod, nod.

It's not. I believe Capfriendly is incorrectly splitting out signing bonus when calculating the savings between cap hit and salary, as the base salary and signing bonus count together when subtracting from the cap hit. They're not separate.

Example for next year:

Cap hit $6M
Base salary $2M
Signing bonus $2M
Subtract cap hit from total salary $2M
Buyout cost $1M
Total cap hit $3M
Cap savings $3M

1. he is a vet the soccer czar is leaning on
2. the team stinks
3. he stinks
4. him, being on the ice is not a solution, he is a liability that is keeping a kid from getting playing time
