I agree with pretty much everything here. Gotta be better 5v5.

I'm definitely in favor of Sullivan shaking the lines up a little. He did that routinely in the two cup seasons, but has refused to do it ever since. Very odd.

Pens have to play smarter. I don't know what the official count on turnovers last night, but it had to be double digits. Some of the ugliest TO's you'll ever see from an NHL team.

Wow... Big hockey trade today. How soon will Laine want out of Cbus? Rutherford not gonna like someone beating him to the first trade of the season. Itchy trigger finger just got a whole lot itchier.....or something.

Under Torts, Laine will either learn to become a complete hockey player or it will be one of the biggest disasters ever.

1. I don’t know why either player wanted out of their respective city but to me cbus seems like the Winnipeg of USA.

2. RW must of lost his virginity; I’m really liking his blogs lately, although there weren’t much for graphs and pie charts. I like the realistic good and bad comments with a slightly happy demeanour to them. Punny titles and you knew that jj jab was coming.

Good recap with pointing out exactly how I felt but with real numbers, not just my eye test, and even some solutions to lineups.

Guess I was close enough last night with Laine and roslovic for Dubois and a 1st.

Not trying to jump on things too quickly, but I'm over the third line. I know JR's priority is a 3rd pairing LD, but I'd really like to see revamp the third line. I'm fine with Tanev staying there as I think he's still the only who looks like he belongs there, but I'd like to see them move on from Jank and McCann.

I know JR thought he got a find in McCann and while I've been impressed with him in the past I think it's time to throw the switch. They don't have time to wait things out anymore.

I would try to create a package to grab Henrique from ANA even if it means adding Legare or maybe straight up for Carter if LAK retains. Yeah, Carter is old, but I think he'd be solid fit to man the 3rd line.

I mean, not to take anything away from you as you've called a few, Laine for PLD has been talked about for months. Plus LeBrun reported last night that this deal was likely.

Pretty sure he commented on the board about it before Lebrun gave the details.

Video Game Trade Time! Just dreaming big here and I honestly don't care about draining the futures at this point. I really don't think as highly as Poulin and/or Legare as some do, nor do I think they will help this team when they're ready to rebuild.

TO ANA: McCann + Legare
TO PIT: Henrique ($1M retained)

Probably some tweaking needed on this deal to make it work, but that would be the gist.

TO NJD: 2nd, Poulin + Sceviour
TO PIT: Palmieri ($1M retained) + Kulikov

I'm not sure what the Devil's goalie situation is, but if they can swap out Poulin for one of the Pens' goalie picks from this last draft, I'd obviously elect to that instead.

If/when the Pens D actually gets healthy, someone can get moved to the Taxi Squad and yes, they'd risk waivers, but I think it's worth it.

If I was the owner and you told me this was your plan id replace JR with you. Obvi you would have to have a coaching plan but so far I’m sold!

I just think aside from getting some cheap help on D, they need to go big or go home. I don't think little tweak moves are going to do much at this point. I'd rather they stand pat and get a fill-in on D than go after guys like Roslovic.

Call me crazy, but that is an over payment from Winnipeg. I just feel as though this shouldn't happen. Defense is more of their issue right now, not poor center play.

Note:Even though a lot of rumor sites have Laine and Roslovic connected to the PLD trade.

Read a site this morning stating JR was close on a trade for a Defenseman and he was in talks with 3-4 teams. -thedailyhorn

A young, large bodied top 6 center is so hard to find that you knew they would get a big return though. Agree they didn't need him right now, but that's a guy you can build around.

I'm not as high on Laine as some. Just not sure he gets back to being a 40 goal guy. Nice piece still, but I think the Jets got the best player.

I'm not ready to demote Jankowski just yet. Too many reactions good and bad to him over 2 game samples. But if we did, sign me up on team give Blueger a shot before we make a trade. And then Jankowski is probably fine at 4C.

Nope. Plus CBJ has a major issue down the middle now, but I also guess Roslovic will get his shot a C. It's not like they had a choice and on paper this trade makes a lot of sense.

I'm ready to move on from McCann at this point though. I'm fine with swapping the Cs around, but I'd rather try and move McCann for help at C.

Not really a prediction but this much I know for sure... some of the pens core have made it known they think they are “to easy to play against”. This was also brought up by a pens new assistant coach that other teams think this as well. This is recent and also goes back to the playoff series against Montreal.
2 names that have come up with interest from the pens are Dermott and Zadorov. Yes 2 different types of players but both were targets in the offseason.

Actually now that you mention it I did remember reading jr had interest in zadarov in the offseason.

And to Rino’s point, I agree for Sid, geno, and Letang to get another cup a 3rd or 4th line tweak won’t cut it. I think the depth on this team was actually improved this offseason as they have generally been carrying the team so far so kudos to them. But yeah some top 6 skill is needed and a big tough left D or 2 to replace Dumo/petterson/MM so they can clear the crease. Letang and Marino can do their thing.

Let O’Connor try out for the 4th line at some point. Hopefully players with skill and some grit. Not just grit.

I didn’t get to properly watch the game but I find it funny this is the first mention of the bottom 6 and it’s negative.
