Last 2 years their goalies are allowing an incredily high amount of low danger chances go into the net.

Stop codling Freddy. He's average at best.

- RogerRoeper

Im not codling, just stating facts.
Besides, if this is such a superstar team, they should only need average tending.
But.
Theyve been complete garbage defensively as team the past 2 years. So.
Hopefully they finally get it together this season

Big picture time Woodsie.

I like the way they’re coming together especially considering the time needed for new guys to work themselves in. I like that they dominated and held down a one point lead. I liked Freddie’s play. He was quiet compared to Montreal and didn’t give up a lot of rebounds. The goal was off a very quick shot where he had to come across. I always like to see holes covered but tough to do when you have to come across quickly like that.

I may like tomorrow’s game a lot less but right now I’m happy with the team and a used with what I read here.

Hot take.

The current top 3 teams in the canadian division will finish as the top 3 teams when the season ends.

The order remains to be seen.

B00k it.

The Leafs win it by a lot. It’s already locked into Wedgie Thread of Shame

I had:

Calgary
Montreal
Toronto
Edmonton
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Ottawa

It's still possible although I really wasn't impressed with the Oilers defense/goaltending these last two games.

If McDavid or Draisatl don't fill the net, nothing happens for them.

Markstrom looks good.

Apparently, we’re not allowed to take last night’s game into account or the fact that Freddie goes through periods where he is just (barely) ok to periods where he is very good. In the periods where he is very good, he looks a lot like he did last night. In the grand sample size of last night Freddie and defence were good. Time for despair

EDM has troubles with deep teams.

Leafs have 3 strong lines and that could be enough to outmatch MCD and Dri.

it is ridiculous how poorly that team has surrounded Mcdavid. They need some guys to take away some points from Mcdavid and Dri or they will never be good.

Oh and Edmonton fans already hate Barrie.

- Santo_44

You know how you get instant impressions of some people...? I get that with Barrie. Just something about him.

I was talking about his play in his own end mostly.

He is suppose to make his partner better, not , if you give him a good partner.

- bixll

Well, I'm going to knock the tennis ball back over the net with:

"I don't think Rielly is the guy to make his defense partner better in his own end. We need to give him a good partner."

Your move, Bixi.

I've watched a lot of Edmonton games. McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH and Yamamoto are all good up front. Obviously if McDavid or Draisaitl are not there, RNH and Yamamoto aren't doing anything. If you can take away those two, you can limit the team. Teams that use "minor interference" on guys flying through the neutral zone can impact Edmonton because they rely on offense off the rush or on quick zone entries (again, McDavid's strength). Because of the timing of Saturday's game (coinciding with Leaf game) and yesterday's game wasn't broadcast here for some reason, I didn't see either Habs game. I'm guessing they picked guys in the neutral zone, and closed gaps on Draisaitl and McDavid quickly.

You just saw it - but their D is unreliable. I like Nurse and Bear.

It's 4 games and Tippet is a good coach. The talent drop after those names mentioned is steep . . . but it's hard to bet against a team with 2 younger-than-prime Hart Trophy winners not being in the top-4.

at 5v5 the Leafs are rocking 88.89% for 25th in the league atm
also they are only shooting 6.74% for 23rd in the league
and sporting a .956 PDO for 26th in the league.

Lots of room to improve. they are 3-1, thats a good sign

- senstroll

50% high danger chances will do that.

How is blaming Leafs D and not Freddy "Facts"? Favcts tell us Freddy is letting in easy shots other starters are not.

Connor Hellebuyck wona Vezina with a worse D.

It's unprofessional, but not sure he should be fired.

One thing I didn’t like was Thornton on the ice with one minute left

Looked like he was hanging out waiting for an empty netter

Honestly, I was disappointed by both in the last pair of games.

Nurse seems to look for a big hit here and there but doesn't do a great job clearing the front of the net. Overall he's been extremely "meh".

Bear was so horrible in the first game, he got scratched for the second one.

Oilers need to find solutions for this fast or they'll fall behind.

Yeah of course he should be fired. It's baseball, he should be taking pictures of the other team's pitch signs.
