im DONE with coach dummy. he can go.
why is Brome on the 4th line now? I get that Ryan is back but cant Brome play RW instead of Gagner on the 3rd line.

Lindstrom,G.Smith and Rasmussen still MIA from the lineup...

I agree on Brome for sure. The insanity of sticking to lines from training camp that weren’t able to play together, I don’t get it. Ryan would get more time and space on the third line. Brome, to me, looked good enough to be in the top six.

still a lot of dead weight on the roster-filpulla, gagner, erne, and so on.

you look at this defense and you tell me who you would keep moving forward?
Hronek?

everything we talk about in this blog is related to the talent level of the team. we all know where its at, its in the dumpster.

next season is when it starts to get interesting- Seider, Veleno, Raymond and maybe Berggren joining. + hopefully they get lucky in the lottery and get Owen Power.

They can't play any better because they have no coach nor anything resembling a "system".
"Dump, Don't Chase and Poke and Hope" is not NHL level strategies that work.

I'd like to see G. Smith and Rasmussen in the lineup tonight. Wings need some size and grit injected into the lineup. Let's see what they can do. Smith is a strong forechecker and the Wings need it badly.

Say what you will about Ganger, but as slow as he is, he still creates, and threw hands trying to bring some motivation to the team. Guys that get older & slower become fighters (think rugby players; backs get slower & become forwards...). I would opine he brings something to the table, not rebuild quality but helps younger guys learn....

D was rough, but Merrill showed some flashes of brilliance. Glenny was under-stated & held his own (used his stick to knock down several passes, etc...). Brome needs to be Top6. Full stop. This kid needs to be uncorked. Stud.

Bernie scares me. Vanilla Greiss was stone cold....coooold. This is a pick-up that will routinely gives the Wings a fighting chance, we were in the game (figuratively) for 2.75 periods. Did I mention Bernie scares me 🤔🤔

2d line needs to step up, but LARMAZZI has yet to knock off the dust and blow the Canes away. Carolina has the 90% solution; they need a stud between the pipes. Their defense is multi-functional & will torch an opposing team given 1/2 a chance. So the Wings MUST roll 2 lines that bring franking heat, a 3d that’s unpredictable, & a 4th that wears their asterisks out. I’m not a fan of routine dump n chase. There is a time for that, but it requires practice to ensure that mates are prepared to light the burners to actually chase...not watch the world pass them by ....”like the house on the side of the road...” It all comes down to “battle drills”: Rehearsing actions over & over until it becomes wrote memory, like we do in the Army, knowing where everyone is, who has what sector of fire, etc... That requires leadership & knowing your team’s strengths & weaknesses...& how to improve in all areas. Leadership is something that can’t be brought in off the taxi squad. We need changes in leadership & attitude; Not continual platitudes.

I want to see a fire from the puck drop tonight. Desire. Attitude. Something that says “Yup, we ain’t the best, but you’re gonna have to bust your ass to beat us. And WE’RE playing as team, so this ain’t gonna be a cake-walk. Buckle up, beaches.”

Smith’s a beast. Ras, I think, is on the precipice of greatness. Love to see them in, the vets (Erne, et. al.) should be taxi squad guys for now. Screw it; flip the damn script, be unpredictable.

Hey all, do any of you enjoy seeing the notes between periods? I use them for my summaries so i can remember specifics about the flow of the game. If it’s just too much info, let me know and I’ll just do a summary between periods.

I like them because you guys see things I don’t & gives a bit more insight....switching between your notes & the game is a bit of a struggle for me, and my wife wonders if I’m watching the game or tracking your notes 😳😂😂

That’s awesome! Thanks mc. I love this game. It’s like playing chess during an earthquake. You set up the pieces and every minute or so you have to reset the entire board!

First period notes up. Took a long time for Detroit to get a shot on net, but a short handed opportunity started the ball rolling. Much better game for the Wings so far:

First Perdiod - much better period. Glendening is a faceoff beast in the D zone. Detroit is doing better at limiting shots and breaking up plays. Power play looked way better, Fabbri with an important faceoff win. Best opportunities may have been short handed. Bertuzzi is invaluable. Physical play is cranked up, way more physical. Good to see

Yeah... frustrating for sure. Let the young guys play. They can't take a job if they don't get a chance. Using them sparingly makes zero sense. This team has nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Strome should be slotted up in the top 6...

Physical. Much more so than Thursday. Much better on FOW. PP changed the order; Thur PP2 became tonight’s PP1 had issues on initial entry & settling the biscuit down for about :50 then had sustained control in the O zone, Zadina camped out in his favorite spot & had some good looks...he looks more settled in. Tonight’s PP2 looked disjointed again.

Hronek is a beast tonight. 2d line had a completely different look w/Ryan in, these guys are already clicking. 1st line looks better, but still rusty. Bert’s on fire, buzzing all over (can we call it “BertBuzzing”?).

Not sure why the change in intensity, but positive results. MUCH better. FOW crucial in D & O zone and much improved. Bernie actually looked good.

Dude, whilst I agree with “Age & experience win over youth & enthusiasm” adage, I agree. Bring the hunger, the desire to prove worth. As shown in period 1 tonight, physical play took the Canes off their game...Smith smashing everyone in his path would be destructive. Ras camped net-front would be a wonderful thing to see. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. The vets bring learning, so we don’t want to lose that, necessarily, BUT setting the tone for the season as a changed team via physical play would pay dividends.
