From 08 to 18 Ontario was considered a have not province and received transfer payments from the federal government. Most of which came from the oil sands.

In 2018 the feds informed Ontario that they were no longer considered to be a have not province the Ontario government protested and wanted the feds to change the way they did their calculations.

you're wrong with your evaluation of Holtby - he is likely to be a Vezina candidate this season.
In addition -- Hoglander will be good for them (I have him as a Calder winner) and Pettersson will only get better.
Strong goaltending (one of the best tandems in the league) a good defense and two good top2 fw lines -- to me it's between Toronto and Vancouver for the #1 spot in the Scotia NHL® North Division

that's the way social systems in developed countries work..
within ontario one could make the case of toronto vs other cities/towns as well, so where do you start/end with that discussion??

I agree, I also think North division is pretty crap in terms of good teams. TOR,CGY, MTL should have no problems being the top 3 teams.

I wouldn't dismiss Vancouver or Edmonton. Vancouver is worse in some areas, but they are growing within from their youth at the same time. If Demko continues as he did in the playoffs, they'll be good. I expect some bumps, so I don't know if they're there yet or not. Edmonton's goaltending, for all that it sucks, was still much better than ours last year - so ruling them out when they have 2 Hart winners is a tough thing to do as well.

It’s also the way the nhl works. Without the rich teams supporting the poor teams we wouldn’t have a league.

If the leafs for some reason couldn’t have fans in the stands for two years they would need and get assistance.

It’s also built into specific federal programs and transfers where they will construct allocation formulas to benefit specific regions and provinces. EI was designed that way with different eligibility requirements and benefit periods that end up producing inter regional transfers

All tax systems have that effect. That’s one of a number of the goals of tax policy. Equalization only has one goal.
