First! Thanks for the update, Theo. Looking forward to seeing how the roster plays out today. I feel like Kurashev sticks.

Thank you, Theo. Excellent write up as per usual!
While the Blackhawks are devastated with the loss of Toews and Dach, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a couple of guys to step up and become NHLers way ahead of schedule. And we just might see some great things down the road for it.

Thanks Theo - great recap.

Why doesn't the practice facility put up white netting?

Although not many on this board like him, it is good to see Pirri making positive plays for this team. It appear he came in to camp thinking he has to work for a position. And maybe, watching a veteran work hard is something that the younger players may be seeing, and keeping in the back of their minds.

Hmmm. So the rebuild to get to point B will take this season and the next two before the next coach comes in to lead the Hawks to point C?

According to Capfriendly, Kurashev is waivers exempt for two more seasons.

In the scrimmage, IMO Kurashev was the best forward on the ice.

I think it depends on upper management's expectations if they feel he's performing poorly.

What coach could come in here and win with what the Hawks have put on the ice the last 3 years? Q couldn't. He was fired because he was losing.

I also think that boilermaker was spot on. By all accounts Colliton does pretty well with the young players. Develop them over the next 2 to 3 years, while getting high draft picks. And this team may be ready to go to the next level when the next "good" coach is here to start the 2023-24 season.

I also think he is not making the $5 mil. per year that a Babcock or a Gallant would want. I haven't seen the #'s, but I bet Colliton has to be in the bottom 25% of coaches salary in the league.

I think it's gonna be a longer than that before this team is anywhere near good, but I get what you're saying

This is a time for stability and development - Colliton is a development coach.

The extension also may be a way of making sure that Kane, Yoews, Keith, Seabrook understand that Colliton is “the guy” for most (all) of the rest of their years in Chicago.

I have said this before, but it is true more now than ever. Every decision Bowman and Colliton make should be based on "Will this put us in better position for the 23/24 season". That includes drafting, signings, trades, roster spots, ice time. In the meantime be patient and focus more on development than wins and losses.

The young Dmen should be hitting their stride by then.

They should have very high draft picks (top 5) in 2022 and 2023.

After the 22/23 season contracts are up for Colliton, Toews, Kane, Debrincat, and Keith. That will free up $32 mil in cap space. Seabs will have 1 year left, but I have to believe he will be gone one way or another by then. That will free up another $6.8 mil.

I am ok with this strategy.

This makes me sad.... ........

Toews, Nylander and Dach really downgrades an already sub-par unit....

And the goaltending....ouch...don't even get me started there!!!

This is a year to ignore the standings and any playoff aspirations, and to survey the Top 3 picks in the draft (of which we will be one of them)....and to watch our young prospects grow at the NHL level...

and whoever else gets "Baptism by fire".....gonna be a tough year....yet, I can't wait!!!

Psst.....the Hawks have a far different opinion of JC than your oft-stated take that the coach shouldn't coach midgets.

Same. Interested to see who develops or surprises and of the slightly older players (Murphy, Zadorov, any of the Swedes), who makes a case to stay going forward.

100% expected and is the right move at this particular time (not to mention completely in line with their stated goals from right after McD was let go).

Bringing in a new coach right now does not/will not drastically improve this team. You have a mish-mosh of players, are trying to find out if you have an actual NHL goalie out of three prospects, and you have basically a throw-away season due to minimal attendance and a compressed schedule. Colliton is cheap, willing to toe the party line and communicates well with the players.

Put me down for Walmark, Zadorov and Suter being pleasant surprises.
