In your opinion will Shayne Gostisbehere be given a legit chance to be in the top 6 or do you think the coaching staff has already predetermined who will occupy those spots?

I think he has an uphill battle to be in the starting lineup for opening night. I don't think Gustafsson's acquisition boded well for Gostisbehere getting back in the starting lineup off the bat, even though Chuck Fletcher has said that he'd be comfortable with both in the same lineup.

Thanks for an honest answer.
What would he have to do to be in the top 6? What s the margin of error for the players he is competing against? That is the part that I do no like about this coaching staff. Others have a much bigger margin of error.
Me I do not think there is much he can do and unless an injury he will be in the press box.

What has he done in the past two years to warrant any playing time?

Nothing.
But hopefully he is given the full shot just as any other player would be. If he shines in camp and looks like the player we all know he can be when he is playing well, he should be in the lineup.
Ghost at his best is a top 4 defenseman on this team.
Now, will he be at his best or is his best even good enough any more? That is the question.

If he plays well at camp I don’t think they are going to put him in the doghouse. I understand he might have the uphill battle but that’s no ones fault but his own.
We all know how this is going to turn out. Ghost will get in when there is an injury and either A.) get limited minutes on a 5-6 pair role or B.) put on an appropriate pairing with PP time and play well until he commits a bad giveaway with the puck and put in the doghouse.
It's going to take some time for Ghost to get his confidence back. That's not gonna happen if he "earns" a spot and then is subsequently benched due to a bad decision or two. Personally, and needless to say I'm not the coach or have any experience coaching, but I give him a long look with a looser rope than usual to give him an honest chance at getting back to his former self. Because if he does, that is a tremendous weapon for this team.

I do not think he will get that longer rope. As you said as soon as 1 mistake, back to the bench.
He is, ghost isn’t lol. Because, logic. - ClaudeFather
I am confused here. There should be no relationship between Ghost’s and Sundin’s playing time as they play different positions.
Am I missing something?

in your opinion, how close do you think the Jets and Flyers actually got on a possible Laine deal? and is it dead? - Ross77
It's done. TK, Myers and York going the other way. Can't wait.
They are still working on the Fortnite clause in the contract. Its section 15. That is the Force Majeure.
Laine, being Finnish, is of course going to have a chip on his shoulder about being part of a team with so many Swedes on the roster. He will be even more pissed about a contract that has a Swedish film as a clause, excellent though the film is.
How could he be guaranteed a spot? - Peter Richards
I don’t think he’s guaranteed a spot, but maybe they’d rather he play 4C than Laughton, who they could put on a wing where he’s more effective. If he does make the team, who does it push out? NAK most likely I’d think. Or JVR if he’s in the doghouse again.

If they are going to have a taxi squad of 26 players I wouldn’t be surprised to see bottom 6 players shuffled in and out of the lineup on a game by game basis. Especially early in the season.
