They need to get a top 10 pick so hopefully it hurts them.

But if players want to show up and improve I’m for that too

I don’t think the Kings need anymore top10 draft picks. They have one of the top three prospect pools in the league, if not the best. I would take the pick but I’d rather them be competitive this year and take a step forward. I mean they won there last seven games last year before everything shut down. And I think they could be a team others sleep on this year which could work in there favor. However, the potential three additions of Col, Dal, and StL won’t help. Either way, can’t wait for some hockey... starting with the WJC!

The Kings will finish 5th place out of 8 team (ahead of Ariz, Ana & SJ), which is better than 7th out of 8 last year. It would be an upset if they make the playoffs but stranger things have happened. I don't think it really hurts or helps them.

The Canada division gets a big boost by only having 7 teams compared to all the rest with 8. Especially if they decide to have the playoffs be the top 4 teams in each division rather than a conference qualifying similar to prior years.

It really doesn't matter since this is still not really a competitive team yet. Barring a major surprise this team is looking at picking 8 - 10 unless ping pong balls fall right.

Good news is we are looking at the big picture just keep moving forward and have the kids improve at all levels. Maybe even pick a younger salary cap/expansion draft casualty and who knows for the following year.

The prediction of a competitive team based on the successful stretch at the end of last year baffles me. This roster might overachieve over a short schedule, but I highly doubt it gets into the top 4. It isn’t a good team but that’s by design at this point. Get a high pick, draft one of the D-men, maybe take on a few bad contracts for picks/prospects, and wait a few years. That’s all we realistically have at this point and that’s ok.

Unless its a really good pick or prospect I would stay away from bad contracts. We don't need a bunch of extra mid round picks especially being up against the 50 contract limit. We saw the type of trades before the Vegas expansion draft there were good players to be had for cheap so space and contracts may be more valuable then.
