Cal Foote aged quickly.

I dont see why you take TJ freely there. Hometown or not, he is on the wrong side of the age bracket and signed too long.

Kraken might take Johnson, if Tampa throws in Foote or Raddysh or some other enticing prospect or pick.

Should they protect Yanne Gourde?....Seems like a contract they can afford to lose

I suspect they're gonna resign and protect Coleman. In my eyes Killorn or Johnson or even Cernak goes

I'd take Killer off the protected list. He's most likely going to be dealt before this season to get below the cap. He's the easier one of the NTC/NMC guys on the team in that he now has a 16-team NTC option. Plus, he's coming off a better than average year that could be enticing to teams.

Killorn and/or Johnson will likely be gone before the expansion draft, with Tampa yielding painful picks and prospects to unload their contracts on either Detroit or Nashville. In an ideal world, it would be Gourde over Killorn (no offense to Gourde) because his contract has more term and a higher caphit. Gourde probably won't waive his NTC though. Killorn's has a modified NTC with a list of teams, and Johnson has shown some willingness to waive his NTC.

Assuming both Killorn and Johnson are gone before the draft, I expect Tampa will protect Coleman and Goodrow - given the investment of picks to acquire them and their team-friendly contracts.

Looking at Seattle's D-corps :

Klefbom-Dumba
Zadorov-Miller
Bean-Lauzon
x - Fleury

If I am a coach, and I am not too comfortable rolling with that. So, I think I would add some defense somewhere along the line and McDonagh is a solid veteran choice, albeit his contract is unpalatable. He would slot in nicely in the top-four and provide a better anchor for any given pairing than what is selected so far.

Kinda feels like McDonagh should be the choice here. His contract is about two years too long, but he can still play at a high level and brings veteran leadership to what will likely be a young, inexperienced team

Tampa hasn’t been able to find a taker for Johnson so far, even with picks attached. So doesn’t make sense that Seattle would select him with no additional compensation

Take McDonagh, slap the C on his chest. Done and done

I know Seattle will take the best person they feel will help the team, but one caveat to remember with Johnson is that he's from Spokane. Seattle might take the "not so" local guy to help drum up more fan interest in the team.

Actually a really solid point. There was quite the crowd reaction when Deryk Engelland was selected for Vegas back in 2017.

They'd take McDonagh if only to cover for the trainwreck that is Colin (frank)ing Miller.

You have taken too many forwards. Seattle is required to take 14 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders, leaving six elective picks. With the premium placed on defenseman around the expansion draft, you better believe that they will take a defenseman with every single one of the six elective picks, just like Vegas did.

No chance Seattle wastes a pic from one of the deepest teams on a player they can likely trade for after the draft for minimal (if any) assets depending on where Tampas cap is and where the CAP situation is for other teams. McD is likely the choice if thats the protected list - although i agree I think they leave Gourde off the list due to the salary (and i'm a BIG fan of YG)

I think they will come up with an agreement with Washington, to select TJ Oshie, who is from Everett, Washington, which is right next door to Seattle.

Yay Patty!!!! 2cups in 2 seasons!!!! Johnson is the smart pick but will Seattle actually pick him? I love the Lightning. Probably shouldn’t be a team but I do like them

Lightning will go 4/4/1.

Protect: Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, Cirelli, Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak, Foote, Vasy

They will expose McDonagh due to the contract and would be fine losing him and his cap hit. They will expose any other forward such as Gourde, Killorn, Johnson or Palat if they are still with the team.

The Lightning will still have cap issues coming up to re-sign the young guys on bridge deals so I would not be shocked to see the Lightning give an asset to the Kraken to take McDonagh (Sergachev is already ready to fill his minutes) to be the Kraken's 1 LD for a few years with a contract that helps them get cap compliant if they plan on getting some younger players.

Exactly, Oshie calls his home Minnesota.
Not sure if he feels like having any connections here.
In any case, I believe that a Dman will be selected, either McD or Cernak.

Not that they'd do this but it would be interesting to see the kind of team Seattle could build if they just grabbed mostly prospects/young players that were no longer expansion exempt, guys like Bean or Fleury from Carolina for example and Foote from Tampa, might end up being a decent team in a few years.

I find it odd that Compher is the 3rd line C for a team with the forward talent the Avs have (also the trailer guy who does most of the o-zone entries on PP2) but would be a 4th line wing for Seattle. Especially with Sam Freaking Bennett as the 3rd line C.

I wouldnt pick anyone with a high salary. Tampas salary cap situation it very interesting. they are currently 17 million over, next season they are over by 3 according to cap friendly. Do you think Seattle could force Tampa to trade a Stamkos?
