Good read, Sean. I like the signing and I agree that it looks like we finally have a complete top nine with a few players that can be mixed and matched.

Might like to fix the Galchenyuk signing tho

One thing I like about our current roster depth is that it'll be interesting to see how things shakeup. Ennis could land on the 1st line. Maybe Kahun? Maybe Pulj? Lots of versatility there and it's only a matter of time before we know who goes where. Nonetheless, definitely nice to see depth in the forward corps.

Solid offseason for Holland. Would be an A if it weren't for the Smith signing. B+ it is.

He’s a player that all 31 teams better have been looking at at that price. I would have liked him in Calgary myself especially over some of the depth signings we did make but he’ll have more opportunity in Edmonton’s top six.

Throwing a non-bias hat on Holland has done a great job with the forwards this off-season, especially when you consider having to navigate doing so with Neal, Russell, chiasson and debatably kassian’s contracts in the fold.

While missing 1 or 2 bonafide top six forwards there’s now an abundance of options to slot in there when one of the other options isn’t working and if everything goes best case scenario your bottom six now also has potential to provide some secondary scoring as well

Solid signing, even if he doesn't end up as anything over a 3rd liner that can skate.

Great signing! Now all that's needed is to find a taker for 1-2 forwards to free up the cap space needed to resign Ethan Bear. I'm sure names like Khaira, Chiasson, even Neal are a top the list of players Oilers would like to relocate, but could be tough.

Previous debates over "paying" a team to take a bad contract aside, it may be inevitable unless the Oilers (and Bear) are content to wait for Klefbom's $$ to go on LTIR. (?)

Because the Sabres have poor asset management? Or because he was hoping to get a contract with more term or a higher AAV and then circled back to Edmonton because he felt he had the best opportunity there?

The latter is most likely for Ethan Bear. I'm expecting a bridge deal in the 1.9-2.2 million dollar range for Bear. Easy enough to fit that in with Klef on LTIR.

Oh, absolutely. Still, though, they have a glut of forwards who I'm sure all want to play (14 by my count) and if someone in the system impresses and earns a spot, that logjam needs to be addressed at some point.

Agree with the bolded.

As far as lineups go

RNH-McDavid-Kassian
Kahun-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
Ennis-Turris-Puljujarvi
Khaira-Haas-Archibald

?

Will Kahun play with Draisaitl, or will they go back to the RNH-Drai-Yamamoto combo...

tune in tomorrow to find out

None of those guys are 1st line players. I like this signing, fuk the Oilers! Time to get McDavid some real wingers.

There are definitely some red flags. Hawks traded him after a great rookie season for Maatta, who was obviously a cap dump for the pens. Then the pens turned around and traded him for 2 bottom 6 players, one who was a healthy scratch a majority of the time. Then the Sabres released him. A 25 year old player averaging about .5ppg doesn’t get shipped around that much for no reason.

Hopefully he sticks with Edmonton though. He was a great complementary player for Malkin

Nuge- Draisaitl- Yamamoto
Kahun- McDavid- Kassian
Ennis- Turris- Puljujarvi
Neal- Haas- Archie/Chia
Chia/Archie & Nygard

Nuge, Kahun, and Ennis can rotate quite freely while Puljujarvi can take over for Kassian when he slumps. Maybe he even takes the spot from him outright.

Wouldn’t be the first time 2 terrible gm’s traded a decent young player for a mediocre return.

As far as buffalo goes his case for arbitration would have likely been way more than what he was worth. It sounded like the sabres wanted to circle back but after the Taylor hall signing it wouldn’t have been a good fit with buffalo also wanting to give guys like cozens and Thompson meaningful minutes in the bottom six.

Not saying I wouldn’t have tried harder to keep him but at least there’s an argument there for letting him go

Good signing for the Oilers. I don't know if Kahun has character issues but he's been thrown around teams. Puzzling.
