Carol Schram: Cap compliance and KHL news — Fantenberg signs in Russia, Podkolzin update One last time down the salary-cap road, with an explanation on how the Canucks can be cap compliant with relative ease on opening day. Also, KHL updates with Oscar Fantenberg signing in Russia, Vasily Podkolzin demoted to the VHL and new prospect Dmitry Zlodeyev ready to show his stuff next week at the Karjala Cup in Finland.

Thanks Carol.
There has been a bit of concern about Podkolzin on here lately, I think he will be fine, what is your take?

I covered most of that in the blog.

He's still very young, and it's not unusual to see Russian prospects get their KHL opportunities limited when they're planning to leave for North America.

I'll wait to see what he does at World Juniors. Hopefully he'll gain confidence and maybe put on a show like he did at the Hlinka a couple of years ago, now that he'll be the big fish and one of the vets.

Thank's Carol,

The more time Pod and Hog have to simmer, preferably in the AHL the better.

I thought they were playing on the top 6 when the Canucks season starts?

He and his agent did themselves a disservice by signing that KHL contract, it’s kind of his own fault.

Another 3rd line energy guy at best, another swing and a miss by Delorme.

Burrows was a 4th line energy guy who excelled on the PK..... he worked pretty well as a 30 goal scorer on the top line. Podz will be the same type of complimentary piece for the top lines. Someone needs to forecheck and get the puck to guys like EP and Boeser etc

Burrows is the exception, not the rule, for every Burrows there’s twenty Virtanen, Sandlak, Stojanov, White, Hodgson, Grabner, etc.

What are the guesses on Petterson and Hughes contracts? Petterson I assume would be a Panarin-esque deal. Hughes closer to 8M AAV?

Olli Juolevi finally ready to make the jump to the NHL? I am guessing that Sutter and Edler walk after this season and cheap cap hits are becoming more necessary for this club.

if they want to come back on vet minimum contracts, maybe. I’d guess they are both gone though,

Haven’t you heard? They are all busts. Benning just lucked out a few times.

I think Aho is a good comp for EP... so probably around 8.5 mil

I think Hughes could go for less. Comps would be Chabot at the high end at 8mil, while ekblad is 7.5 and Seth Jones and Werenski are 5.4 and 5.0 respectively. Plus Hughes has not arb rights and can't be offer sheeted... I think somewhere in the 7's would be fair.... he might go for a small bridge and hope to hit it big a little later down the road.

Yes, either the geek Dubas will want him or the canuck scrap loving parasite in Calgary will take him.

Nobody knows. Many think they will take bridges, if that's the case I would guess we'll see EP around 8 and Hughes around 6 or 7
