I would say he is putting together a “marginally competitive” team. Let’s not get carried away with what “Stevie” is doing.

Looks to me like he is putting together the oldest team in the NHL to buy time to develop prospects and insure he continues to get top 3 picks for at least the next 2-3 years.

Not only that but he is also keeping a lot of roster and cap flexibility. Wings will have 10 UFAs to be on the roster this season so more bait for the trade deadline to increase picks and prospects.

Wings should be able to be a bit more competitive and less blowouts but i still expect them to be a bottom feeder and a good lottery pick holder for the next few years.

But for them to be trade bait wouldn’t other teams actually want to trade for them???

I'm sure some of them will have interest if they have a good season. Either way if they don't perform, they will be gone before next season. Having lots of roster and cap flexibility is a good thing...especially with a flat cap.
