Not sure that Kuznetsov doesn't feel like when we drafted Kanzig years ago... Bad skater, big frame, not much offensive upside...

Would almost rather they'd traded the pick for a roster player.

In response to the comment above, I think you are way off base. Kid is playing as an underage player in the NCAA and according to most scouts he was very effective, skates well, defends well, is tough, best defensive player in the draft. Go watch some film on him, I think he's a great pick.

It's the Russian factor that makes me nervous. Hopefully they've done their dd, and he wants to play in NA and more specifically, in Calgary.

Yeah I was happy when I read that he is in NA playing in the NCAA. I like the pick.

We need a good shut down D with some snarl. Man I miss Regehr!

So Murray is gone, josh Anderson is gone, flames trade down instead of taking BPA. Tre started in his interviews that we were 11 seconds from being up 3-1 on the western conference champs and was preaching patience siting a comparison between us and tamp from a few years ago I’m starting to get that sinking feeling that we will same team next year with a watered down defence core

Poirier not a bad compensation for moving down from 19 to 22.

Solid defender, but a lot of variance in the ratings on his skating. Dunno, not stoked about this pick.

Skating
Kuznetsov’s skating is a bit of a work in progress. His top-end speed and acceleration going forwards is about average, or maybe a touch below. However, he is a lot better in his backwards skating (comparatively), as he is above average. He also has good edgework, agility and pivots. This allows him to get around the ice well enough and play an effective defensive game. He is strong on his skates when playing against his peers. His balance is good and he has the ability to win battles for loose pucks and clear the front of the net. However, there is room to add muscle to his frame and this can get even better.

Offensive Game
Kuznetsov has a powerful slap shot from the point. His wrist shot also has good power but he could stand to improve the release. He is also able to retrieve pucks in his own end of the ice, make a quick move to avoid a forechecker and make a smart pass up the ice to start the transition game. A stay-at-home defender, he does not join the rush often. Similarly, Kuznetsov is likely to look to keep the puck moving and make the safe the pass when the puck is on his stick in the offensive zone.

Im a bit surprised at the negative talk today, loved the extra pick trades and still landing Zary. Can’t understand why more Gm’s don’t do those trade down moves. Now they get a steal in poirier and have two more picks this round.

My god, a few months ago my choices for our first rounders was zary, Schneider and poirier.

If we can get poirier’s right shot D partner villeneuve with our second 3rd that would be amazing.

Also with poirier expected to go much high I’m satisfied taking a stay at home Russian in the second. It’s like we got 2nd round talent in the 3rd and 3rd round talent in the 2nd.

It’s always tough to turn down the BPA and move back. The reality of it is that all these draft picks are no more than lottery tickets. The more tickets you buy the better the odds you’ll get something out of it

So far so good. I'm happy with this draft. The development of a team from draft through seems to be where Treiliving will be the most effective as a GM. The direction the Flames are going in reminds me of the glory days of Detroit.

Hearing the news that Vancouver has put their best foot forward with Markstrom gives me some hope that we might be able to get him here. We have a good base of Swedish players and he knows what it's like to play in a Canadian market.

Essentially we get Zary, Poirier & Boltmann for Schneider.
We will have our answers in 2-3 years

Russian defender:

NHL Central Scouting: 28th (Among NA skaters)
Bob McKenzie, TSN: 61st
ISS: 30th

looks pretty good value coming in the late 3rd round

Saw an article written by a Lightning writer suggesting the only player the Lightning should worry about getting this year is Boltmann. Had rave reviews for the kid, admittedly though with kids just coming out of high-school you never know... oh he is a right shot

Steve Kournianos - TheDraftAnalyst
''Calgary with sneaky solid pick and maybe justifies passing on Schneider -- Edina RHD Jake Boltmann at 80. Fun to watch. Physical and mobile. A little off the board but this can have a big payoff. Always active on offense in addition to shutting things down in own end''.
Committed to Minnesota Gophers next year.

Interesting - reads like Janko... but appropriate for the 3rd round.

Everyone so down on Jankowski, he already defied the odds and made it to the NHL, had some impact, scored some nice goals, played regularly. Not many bottom half first rounders even do that. Obviously Feaster overhyped him, but Olli Maata (picked right after him I believe) hasn't been much better. Nor any of the other players around his pick.... It's so hard to project these picks.

Not sure you can say that, we traded #14 for the 21st & a 2nd round pick that we took Seiloff with. Here are a few players we could have had at 14 Tom Wilson(16)
Tomas Hertl (17) Tervanian(18) Vasilevski (19).

You nailed it Kevin R. That move Feaster made was terrible.
