Hains: Free Agent Frenzy?
Every year, obscene amounts of money are handed over to free agents on July 1st, but it won’t be the same this year… For one thing, free agency will start on October 9th and the flat cap and lack of revenue will complicate matters. |

Good blog Karine, interesting options for sure.
Not sure what Bergy has in mind but I would keep Domi and send Drouin packing. |

I agree Hoffman is the best target. Do you think 7x7 would a competitive offer? Anymore than that seems excessive for a guy exiting his prime, and I'd rather he leverages Domi/Drouin in a trade for another winger instead. |

If Hoffman wants more than 5.5M, I say no thanks. He might be big but does not play a heavy game. Saying that we need scoring. I definitely prefer the trade route |

I think it will be an interesting UFA period.
A lot of teams are near the cap, and some are reported to want to dump big time salary for an internal caps due to revenue losses.
Other than a few players, I think it will be unlikely many long term contracts are signed. I can see lots of 1-3 year deals, waiting to see how the landscape shifts in a few years.
I can see a situation where there will be excitement for the first few hours... then a lull for a few days as the rest fo the players and GMs see how the market settles.
Might be some good opportunities for patient GMs with cap space. |

I would like the HABS to sign Kovalchuk again. He was a great fit last year. He disappeared in the playoffs but I think the Caps as a team were not motivated at all. I’d like to see the effect of his positive influence for an entire season. One year deal. |

On the free agency market, you risk being involved in a bidding war and your offer may just be used by your target to get the same offer in a friendlier market. I’m not saying it’s impossible that Bergevin makes a big signing but I’d be surprised.
could the financial struggle of other teams because of covid become an advantage for teams like MTL where money isn't really a problem (yet)..?

So confirmation has come out that arenas and gyms stay open.
With that being said

if he could play the same way he did last time he was here than sure it would be interesting, but he'll most certainly have a hard time keeping that pace over 82 games (or whatever the number of games the regular season will have) |
