I think a trade with Ottawa could be in the works..

To NJ:
- NYI 1st 2020
- OTT 2nd 2020
- Zaitsev
- L Brown

To OTT:
- Subban
- ARI 1st 2020

This I think is an overpayment by Ottawa but it does help both teams.

Ottawa gets Subban who has two years less than Zaitsev on his contract and that clears the way for prospects to break in. Subban will also do a lot of heavy lifting in the Ottawa community in terms of relationship building. He’s a great guy to have in your corner.

NJ gets to walk away from Subban and the contract. It just hasn’t worked out.

Who would you have OTT grab with this pick if this trade went down?

Honestly, I just want Subban as he’s one of my favourite players and I think he’ll bounce back.

Ottawa has so many picks that they will need to package some to move up because you just can’t have that many bodies. I haven’t looked at the list to see who’s available but if Lapierre is still available I’d jump on that.

I just read that the Devils have interviewed Sanderson twice.

Don’t sleep on them taking him at 7 or using 18 and 20 to try and trade up to get him.

dude, P.K. is 31 and has been steadily declining for 3-4 years now......the chances of him rebounding is slim to none. Ottawa is giving up WAAAAAAYYYYY too much, and taking on WAAAAAYYYYYYYY too much dead weight in this deal to just move up 8-10 spots (I don't know which pick belongs to Arizona).

now, if you removed Brown, or if NJ ate 50% of Subban's deal, then maybe you have a starting point of a deal

If Fitz drafts Sanderson at #7 he should hand in his resignation at the same time. I hope that is a screen to make another team trade up for him. Also no way you can trade 18 and 20 to move up in a draft year like this.

There’s no disputing though that Sanderson is the 2nd best defensemen in this draft.

It’s not impossible to believe the Devils could take him at 7 and then go best forwards available at 18 and 20.

No argument he is second best. But at 7 there are better players available that also address the needs of the Devils. And if we are honest, the Devils will be drafting in this range again next year - where all reviews I have read have said there are better dmen available than this year's top dmen. Therefore get the better pick at forward.

i'm still skeptical about that. before everything shutdown, he was neck and neck with Guhle and Schneider (Guhle was actually ahead in a lot of rankings), it was only after everyone stopped playing that he seemed to jump ahead. Hell, in the May prospect rankings, Pronman (who's one of the better evaluaters of prospects) didn't even have Sanderson as a top 20 pick.

i'm not saying he isn't the 2nd best, but i'd be super iffy about reaching on a guy who moved up so rapidly without a single game being played

I've wondered if Ottawa tries for a big splash and moves all the way up to 10 where Winnipeg is. would have to be something like 28th, one of Brown or Norris and a 2nd rounder?

well Central Scouting released their final rankings on April 8th and they ranked Sanderson ahead of Perfetti and Rossi

team's covet defensemen, like Detroit showed last year, I do think there is a better chance Sanderson gets snagged early rather than he lasts awhile

Heck I hope he goes earlier then the Devil's 7OA, we would get a better forward and not be tempted to draft the Dman.

you could very easily be right, like I said i'm just skeptical that he's "clearly the 2nd best dman available", especially given that he only separated himself from the other dmen after games stopped.

man the Devils, I am not trolling here because the Rangers have certainly had their (frank) ups, but if they took Werenski (or Provorov) instead of Zacha 5 years ago, OMG, they'd be in great shape

I'd like to know why Karine Hains was not making the Habs pick? Nothing against the person who made the pick but shouldn't the person who does one hundred per cent of the blogging for the team make some sense? If you're going to do it, do it right.

after I typed that I checked out a whole bunch of mock drafts from 2015 and it seemed like almost every one I come across had the Devils taking Zacha

10 All-Stars in the first round of that draft

You had a better-than-one-in-three chance of drafting an All-Star, the Bruins had three picks, and drafted zero
