yes the Jets need a center, but im not trading ehlers, like you said, he's the better player and has the better contract. |

Montreal aren't looking for a center. They're gonna be banking on Suzuki, Kotkaniemi and Danault as their top 3, especially taking into account their playoff performances. |

I think Monahan would be the perfect fit in Buffalo but our fan base is split on him.
Cozins and #8 wont happen but I could see #8 and Risto or #8 and another prospect like Johnson or Samuelsson or Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen getting it done. |

as an outsider not tied to either team, that seems like the best fit and cost. |

Both teams could even make it a bigger trade and do like Carolina and Flames did.. couple more pieces or picks on each side to really shake up both squads. |

Sean Monahan for Vincent Trocheck, Jake Gardiner ($1.5 million retained) and a 3rd round pick. |

If the Jets were to trade for Monahan for Ehlers they would fix the need at center only to create a need on the wing. The Jets would be better off trading a combination of prospects, draft choices and players like Copp or Lowry. However Monahan's -16 plus/minus rating would drive Maurice crazy. |

Risto is not a player CGY wants. The player was looked at and vetoed as a non-starter. It will likely take a decent prospect to unload Risto. If you are looking to add a current top 3C, expect to pay a top prospect, a first, and a good prospect or additional draft pick.

The question from the Sabres side is if the Flames would shift Elias Lindholm back to Center, would a Reinhart for Monahan swap, at least as the core pieces, make any kind of sense? |

I am no fan of Ristolainen, but the bold above is a massive overstatement almost absent of reality. |

If you look closely, you'll see that the fact that pretty much every single Coyote has had a decline over the last couple of years has coincided with Tocchet being coach. |

he's Jack Johnson 2.0.
Maybe a bit more offensive flair, but still mostly a trainwreck without the puck. |

It’ll never happen.

Are you from another planet, or is it drugs? Drugs seem more likely, but based on that statement above I would still consider you a planet hopper |

Would like to have Monohan on the Sabres, but Cozens is a deal killer. |

I would love a player like Monahan but the Jets are in the same position as the Flames in that they have a 4 year win-now window. Ehlers is part of the Jets core and his contract has insane value considering the cap friendliness of it plus the term. He's also the best 5 on 5 player and play driver they have. As a winger, he controls the entry the way the centre should. If the Jets get a center, they keep the core in tact and they go after a team looking to shed salary for picks and prospects kind of like what the Canucks did for J.T. Miller from the Lightning.
I think the biggest problem for the Flames has been their inconsistent goaltending. Talbot stood on his head against the Jets in the qualifying round and then disappeared. The Flames have a solid forward core, a strong but aging defense but no real number 1 goalie. If I were the Flames, I would be looking at shedding enough salary to go after a solid number one like Lehner or if he's not signed by Vegas, then Holtby. If I was a free agent goalie, I see the Flames as being the closest to being Stanley Cup contenders compared to the other teams that are looking. |

Im not so sure the Flames are penciled into 4 year win now window as you suggest. With a few tweaks this team is a serious contender now but we also have some very good young talented players with high upside beyond 4 years (Chucky, Dube, Mang, Anderson, Vali, not to mention Lindholm, Hanifin, Bennett. If the Flames deal Mony and JG this off season they can balance the return to help now and a few years from now. Agree goal tending is a big call this summer but there has never been a better time to be in the goalie market. GFG |
