cant wait until Nielsen and Abdelkader are off of this team.
roster in major flux. need a #1 goalie, defense man and center.
Yzerman walked into having Stamkos and Hedman in tampa. he doesnt have that situation here, lets hope he makes the right choices..

I'd prefer Biega be the #7 guy. I expect Yzerman to sign a cheap UFA defenseman to a 2 year deal similar to Nemeth last summer.

Months ago I suggested Oscar Fantenburg was on their radar as a "Nemeth-type" stopgap. Hakan almost drafted him. But he's likely earning an extension in Vancouver. But that's the type of stopgap I'm expecting.

I also think there is a chance of a traditional hockey trade. Mantha could be a guy that's used to add a young top pair d-man. Something like Mantha for Nurse, or DeAngelo, or Pulock. Not saying I'm a fan of that, but Mantha would be in high demand and may not have the compete level that Yzerman wants.

Interesting K. There was a pretty good rundown of 2nd round candidates on Mlive. We seem to find good players there. Would you go Sweden or Czech on D? They seem to be developing good blue liners

You’re right as far as a high demand player. Kenny had several offers on Mo, glad he stayed put. Nurse, he seems to be on a good track. What do you think of Ethan Bear?

If Stevie picks Marco Rossi, there are a few that think he will play in the NHL in his draft year and the later draft and later season may prove to be in favor of that happening. Of coarse if Stutzle and /or Byfield fall to #4 (highly unlikely) they too are projected to play in the NHL in their draft year.

On another note: I see Xaviar Oulette log a bit of time for the Habs and , frankly, he now passes the eye test! I don't know his analytics, but maybe he found a home in Montreal.
Another note is that De La Rose was finally using his body! He seems to have been given the word!

I think Julien is good at defining roles for players. Being on a team that has positive direction (and a way better goalie) can help guys find their footing too. Tats has some good looks there too. Shame they got knocked out.

mmm he may have found a home there, but he made some rather foolish plays and cost them a few bad PKs. The Montreal fans were pretty upset with lack of discipline on his behalf. Got away with checking defensemen into Price a few times, as well. I understand trying to draw a penalty, but if there was one man the Habs needed more than anyone, it was a healthy Price.

He certainly played with a spark now and then, but he made some costly mistakes, too.

I think as fans, we get FOMO. Every time a player leaves there is some “panic”. Tatar plays really well, but the picks were too good to pass up. Nyquist looks good, but in 5 yrs? We overvalue guys like X, Nosek, Puljujarvi etc. part of the pain of letting go of the good years

As far as i know, Rasmussen still has one more year he can be sent down without waivers. He's only been a pro for 2 years.

On another note, i'm hoping the Wings can use a mid/later pick on Maximilian Glötzl. He's ranked 79th for Euro skaters. 6'2, 198 pounds left handed defenseman. Can't find any game highlights on him but the scouting report sounds pretty good:

"Might just be the biggest German D talent not named Seider.Big frame, strong defensively, accurate passer, strong skater with excellent speed", Janik Beichler (Scout) 2019

You may be right on Ras, I’ll take a look. Germany is becoming a bit of a hotbed. I’m not familiar with MG, I’ll take a look! Thanks, as always. Nice take

I wouldn’t mind DeAngelo at all. I’m not sure how many GMs are sold on Cholo at this point. The draft floor could be really active this year with teams needing and wanting picks

Cholowski's value is equivalent to a 3rd round pick. But Wings fans toss his name around like he's some big trading chip.
