Keep in mind Habs got rid of Kovy, Scandeezy, Thompson and Cousins at the deadline, severely puts them behind the 8-ball at making a serious playoff run as majority of the teams that knew they would be making the playoffs added at the deadline. Their lineup is depleted but we will ride the young guns, this is crucial experience they need for their development

Habs are playing with house money. True underdogs. Let's keep it rolling baby!

I know...totally fcked up their chance at lafreniere or a really high draft pick.

All that for a first round beat down by the flyers.

Can’t believe what an easy path Flyers got.

It’s a general truism in sports that teams that suck will be underdogs.

Yes you are correct.

I have a feeling the Habs might get screwed by gary and his minions in this series. For perspective here is a Habs-Flyers game from this year, in November:

Flyers - 6 Powerplays

Habs - 0

This happened on a regular basis this year including in their recent qualifier and largely contributed to why the team wasn't going to make the playoffs pre-covid. We know gary would love for the Flyers to advance for his NBC ratings let's hope he doesn't screw us like they tried to in the Pens series. Keep close eyes on the officiating and hold them accountable, don't let them (frank) us

Doesn't Gary face the same pressure from Sportsnet in Canada? Rogers pays many times what NBC does for Hockey broadcasting rights. And Montreal viewers outnumber Flyers viewers by a lot.

Look at the shots on net, MTL rarely had the puck, that explains why they took penalties

Habs blow...they were 500 in the regular season which means because of 3 point games that they’re actually BELOW 500.

This is such an EASY path!!!

Thank you hockey gods!!!!

Nope, gary could careless about Sportsnet ratings, he's got his money from them for the broadcasting rights. He doesn't make money off Canadian advertisers. We saw a similar thing with basketball and the Raptors. Rogers are the losers when Canadian teams are out and less eyes are watching, gary gets paid regardless. Why NBC ratings are more important is because the US advertisers. It's a huge part of their revenue. They usually string a Canadian team along to the semis or Conf Finals to throw you a bone but their objective has always been to grow the sport in the US. Last Canadian team to win - Habs in '93, gary took over in February of '93..

Nah that's horsepoop. That just shows you didn't watch the game. If you watched the game you would know how horribly lopsided the officiating was. That was one of the worst officiating disgraces I had seen in a very long time. The shot differential is so great because every time the Habs touched the puck it was a Philly PP

12 minutes of PP time while the other had nothing and you expect the shots to be close?

And even still after that, Habs only lost in OT

The other side of the coin says that in 12 minutes shorthanded, they probably rarely held the puck and using a reasonable average they may have faced 18 shots against. That would almost entirely account for the difference in shots.

To make matters worse, the officials deliberately missed a high stick on Drouin in the last couple minutes of the game that cut him. That should've given the Habs a 4 minute PP heading into OT so they call the Habs for every little thing then miss an actual double minor high sticking penalty in a (frank)ing 2-2 game with a few minutes left. It makes ya sick! but ya I guess Montreal just didn't have the puck lulz

You are the king of conspiracy theories that fail to make even the most rudimentary sense. There are way more Canadian viewers than US viewers, and way more Canadiens viewers than Flyers viewers as the Habs are by far the most popular team in Canada. The TV deals you speak off are tied to viewership, which are tied to advertising. That is why Rogers pays a lot more for its TV deal than NBC does.

So, if Canadian teams are out, viewership in Canada will fall, which will imply that in 5 years time, when Sportsnet goes to negotiate a new deal, after years of flat salary cap, Rogers will tell Bettman it will pay less. How on earth does that make sense?

Yeah, PT. The Flyers have a lot of fans, and are definitely one of the biggest US franchises, but hockey is still a niche market in the country despite some of us being quite rabid over the game.

Philly doesn’t have NEAR the fan base that Montreal does based on that alone. The Habs are the Yankees, they’re just amidst a slump. Philly certainly has fans spread out across North America because of the bad boys image, kinda like the Raiders, but they’re not the Canadiens.

They’re not even bad boys anymore, for that matter. It’s just that...that...that ORANGE.
