It made sense to make the deal but losing Toffoli certainly hurt the Kings.

I'm not sure what you mean by this.
Do you mean short term? After Toffoli was traded, the Kings went 8-2-1 until the season was suspended.
Do you mean long term? A 2nd round pick and a quality prospect in Tyler Madden are both quality adds that will help out the Kings more than Toffoli would in the long term. That extra 4th if he re-signs in Vancouver won't hurt either.
It's also looking increasingly like Vancouver won't be able to re-sign Toffoli. Boeser and Markstrom are both looking for extensions, and with the recapture owed to Luongo and Eriksson's awful contract on the books for another two seasons, there's just no money for Toffoli. Los Angeles would be high on his list of destinations if he's shopping for a new contract on the open market, and with a flat cap and plenty of cap space, the Kings are in prime condition to be able to re-sign him if they so choose.
I just don't see any way how this trade hurt the Kings in any fashion at all.
