Points per 60 is not a good stat. What would happen if Garland played significantly more? Is it automatic that his scoring pace would stay the same or would it drop. What is more likely? Young players develop incrementally. There is a flip side. You see it from your bias of Tochett that he's not doing a good job. I see it as he found the correct way to deploy Garland and the kid is successful.

I watched Garland offensively dominate with the Wildcats. Unless he's changed, he rarely visits his own end.

One of the rare times I actually agree with tanner.

For a team that struggles to score goals you would think that their leading goal scorer would be given more minutes.

I believe over this year and last year he has earned it and keeping him on the bench seems more like punishment at this point.

I’ll admit I’ve maybe watched 1 or 2 yotes games this year so I can’t tell you why the coach keeps him there, but I would think any holes or concerns in garland’s game can be fixed while giving him consistent top 6 minutes. It’s easiest to develop skills through experience which isn’t going to happen as much while riding the pine.

Remember when Barrett Hayton was the 2nd most talented forward on the team? Then he was 3rd. Then 4th. Now he's not in the top 4. Goalposts moving again. Haha.

Also, once Tanner moved on from Corsi to WAR...suddenly Dvorak is his new darling and Kessel is no longer top 4. Goalposts. Haha.

And as someone already pointed out, points per 60 is neat, but assuming production remains linear with more minutes is pretty naive. Watching the games helps!

I wonder when he’ll send out all the apologies after he jumped on his CF% sword and called everyone dumb.

I was at the game the first time Garland visited San Diego with the Roadrunners. I had no idea who he was. But by the second period, it was obvious he was way better than everyone else on the ice. His only problem was that he was small. It's no surprise he's doing well in the NHL. The kid is uber-talented.

You are actually misusing the "moving the goal post thing."

It does not mean changing your mind or adjusting your position when you get new information.

If we are talking most talented then yes Hayton is probably second on the Coyotes in terms of upside and usable talent.

If we are talking this years best players, then he isn't mentioned.

As for Dvorak i didn't think he was too good, but you can't argue with results You do not seem capable of understanding this, but I really don't consider anything I think set in stone. If information comes to light that proves I was wrong as I was with Dvorak, why would I stick by my original assessment?

This is pretty funny. I'd say about 99% of your ideas are proven wrong. Remember when Nylander would win the scoring title? Franson. Runblad. Gormley. Petan. Let's rest all our best players during a PP. Holland and Tippett will fail in Edmonton. Kessel. Goligoski. Schmaltz. Keller. Do you get anything right?

What would it cost to take Garland and Dvorak of your hands. You guys are in cap trouble, what could you guys use.

The moving the goalpost is in reference to your new pet stat. Corsi is by the way side now and it's all about WAR. It's just the newest toy that you use that you don't understand. Just as you proved in your blog that you don't understand /60 stats.

You know what’s downright pathetic about this fraud “hockey” opinionist. Haven’t the Yotes been in camp for a couple of weeks ? Does this guy even follow the team. I mean no camp analysts. His next blog will have anti conservative crap.

Almost all the other team's bloggers on Hockey Buzz have at minimum a few weekly "camp" updates....Tanner? Nope. He is still in Covid movie , political BS, and Top 50 Tanner Movie mode..lol. No one cares what your Top 50 of anything is. How bout you let the Yotes fans know how the team looks in camp before the playoffs start. It would take out a few hours out of your Indie watching, CD listening, Trump bashing ridiculousness day though

Tooooooool Baaaaag Tanner!

Wait. What? The Coyotes have already been practicing? What are the lines? Which goalie has looked better? Someone should ask Ek when he's hiring a Coyotes writer!

I won’t be as harsh as you because in all honesty I just skip over anything I read that’s corona or political related these days anyways but you do bring up a good point about camp updates.

I recall tanner saying something along the lines of he doesn’t write post-game blogs because there’s already plenty online that are the exact same to begin which if he wants to write that way, fair enough.

I would say though that camps are different due to it not being a head-to-head game that opposing fans will catch on to. I could probably bet that most people here haven’t heard a peep from the yotes camp outside of that Phil Kessel reel doing a drill. Now factor in the hockeybuzz platform. I could also bet that most people on it are not yotes fans, yet they come here to stay informed on not only their own teams but other teams as well. So when the writer only bothers to put up stats how do you expect people to stay interested. Especially in these unprecedented times, sure all the comments from Canadian/prominent American team’s players that hit the headlines are going to virtually be the same but regardless the yotes are neither so why not be an outlet to the hockey community.

I personally like having Todd cordell as the writer for my flames but I would also like it better if he gave his own thoughts/opinions on press releases that come out. After all isn’t that what most of us are here for, to communicate with people with a common interest/love for the game. Just seems interesting that for a team that already has a very small platform that the writer does little to draw interest to it outside of his bold takes the on team and it’s players.

On a complete change of topic. Any guesses as to what Taylor Hall’s next contract will be with the flat cap? Asking for a flames fan

Tanner, How is Crouse not an NHL player? He had one less goal than Taylor Hall, who you rank as your top forward? Top Coyotes player of all time! No response? How can you respond? It makes no sense! Either learn the game of hockey or just stick to movie reviews. You make yourself look pretty pathetic!

Gomey you need to pay closer attention. Crouse is not a superstar. Therefore he should be making $1M or less and is basically interchangeable with an AHL player. Maybe you have noticed, probably because you understand the sport and actually watch the games, that Tocchet trusts Crouse in a number of situations due to his reliable, low event play. Well you need to understand that Tocchet is a fool. A progressive coach who isn't just recycled wouldn't even dress Crouse and instead replace him with some AHL guy (Nik Petan would be my pick). And did you really just compare Crouse's production to Hall?? Obviously you don't understand that Crouse was lucky and Hall wasn't. Crouse may have scored 14 ES goals, plus one shorthanded, but I'll take Kessel the superstar all day. He was awful defensively and scored just 5 ES goals (nobody could have ever possibly in a million years predicted that!) But at least Kessel belongs in the NHL whereas Crouse doesn't. Do you get it yet Gomey?

Former mvp, looking to cash in on his last big contract; with a douche agent to boot.

Panarin money is what he'll be looking for. We'll see if someone is dumb enough to do it.

You are right there, but the team's with the most money aren't ready for that kind of commitment yet. I mean Detroit, Ottawa, LA., maybe next year. But you are right about it only taking 1 dumbass GM

I think most fans of teams with those GM’s are going to be happy their teams won’t have the cap room to pull that move.

Whoever said his agent will be looking for panerin money is likely right but unless he wants to play for a basement team he’s not likely to get that. Not only has panerin put up better totals than hall every year but he has done so while staying healthy for virtually every season. Compare that to hall who seems to get injured at some point every year and outside of one MVP season has been more of a first liner than elite superstar, I would think his value would be a couple million less.

Seeing as to how overpaid Jeff skinner was I think that contract would probably be a better comparable for Hall because in my opinion Hall’s a cut above him but still a cut below some of the top wingers in the game who recently signed (panerin, Rantanen, Marner). This all of course before we factor what corona will do to the FA market.

I also wouldn’t be shocked to see Hall pull a Marian Hossa and sign a 1 or 2 year deal with Colorado since until MacKinnon and makar need to be re-upped they’re the only team that could afford it.
