You run a business right?

You take over the business and keep the current staff, because being an owner of a sports team is different.
(Darcy and lindy)

Then you hire an all time favorite employee, guy was great on the sales floor, but management is difficult and he quits. (La la)

Before he quits, he hires an abrasive dueshe bag, who was good a lower level position, but clearly in over his head. (Tmgm)

So then your sick of pee pee slapping and other low budget language. You hire someone that at the very least is cordial in conversation. A natural progression, assistant gm ,now gm . (Botts)

So your flat out sick of "hockey geniuses" but really like a long time employee . Why not give him a shot. (Kagm)

They have been testing the market even when botts was here.

If nothing else, kagm is a friendly respectable hockey guy

This shouldn't matter, but the premise of this post is something I can agree with.
Try something new, because what you (Tim and Kerry) have done hasn't worked thus far.

99 times out of 100, you are not getting the best when you promote within, you are getting a known though

- Boss34

yes and when I have people working for me, I always am looking for a better person when I am not pleased with the result

when I have an opening, I don't just fill it with a body

which goes back to me saying they stuck with a known, rather then trying to get the best person

probably both

if you promote your best cashier to be a manager, he/she may be an ok manager but you can almost always find someone better if you look

Please don't go to the 'you're not a real fan' thing. It's such a sh1tty basis of an argument.

We all invest in the product, whether it be our time, money or both. Fans deserve to be rewarded for their investment. That reward should be that the owner is open minded and doing everything within their power to win. Or lose for Jack Eichel. To eventually win.

- TheSabresTaco

Money spends better than time. If we all just spent time and no one showed up at the arena and gave our distant opinions there would be no Sabres to complain about.

By the way, Kim Pagula has only been team president since 2018 and has been getting blamed for what happened the 7 years prior to that when Russ Brandon was removed for personal misconduct. Two years and there has been a lot of changes. It may not work out but I'm not throwing daggers yet.

I believe you are way overstating the number being 99 out of 100.

I have seen just as many outside hires fail as I have internally promoted employees fail, and just as many of each succeed.

It's a coin flip either way.

Thats not true lol... tell that to all the gm and coaches that have won cups
- gerbe75pts

didn't know we tanked for eichel to become a lab rat franchise (experiment with unknowns)

it's not like we are just missing out on the playoffs, we are not even close, always a bottom 8 franchise

I can certainly give them credit for hiring them, just as I can fault them for not finding their Sabres counterparts.

But isn't every hire truly a luck of the draw? When you hire outside people, you truly don't know what you will be getting. You can look at resumes and skill sets, but you don't know how they will translate to your org or business.

Hence why I use the word luck.

- TheSabresTaco

I think we're on the same page.

I really like kagm. Like the local connection, like his personality and really like that the pegula's should trust him with hiring. It's almost as if they want him to manage generally 🤔

I would be shocked if they didnt hire another hockey guy to help prior to the draft/next season.

Need to make a splash, but why now?
Splash it as you send out the season ticket invoice...

Lucked into mcbeane, but chose the wrong hockey management?

Why isnt the Sabres hires unlucky?

Although I agree with most of your post đź‘Ť

Because they've swung and missed so many times. Even the worst slicer of the golf ball hits it down the middle every once in a while.

Making a profit is the bottom line apparently. And should be in business. Having good cheerful employees makes business life much much easier to deal with.

I'm already buying into kagm because he's likeable.

*I'm the fan that likes players/coaches based on off ice situations as well as on ice.

What if they think he's a known and 'can be' the best person. Why is the narrative that they simply hired a guy because they know him personally? Why does that need to be true?

Fair enough, but have you ever promoted from within?

Maybe someone that is working exceptionally hard, regardless of the situation surrounding he/she?

Maybe so the employee doesnt leave your business?

Familiarity is a human response.

They hired so many coaches and gms, they probably have a rolodex of information on available outside hires.

I think the lifestyle means not donating millions after millions year after year to the Sabres so you can pick a lane of picking the hard stuff to drink or beer while streaming the games for free.

I loved Tim Murray because every time he opened his files, there wasn't a (frank) that existed. But I'd rather him be competent than likable. Just my opinion I suppose. Not saying KA isn't competent. Just a general statement.
