Hains: Doesn't Really Feel Like Canada Day...
Even though the Habs are rarely active on free agency frenzy, the annual let's overpay for players day is a day I've come to look forward to every year. - Karine Hains
would drafting Lafrenière help the habs sway other players to sign in Montreal, or would that still be insufficient? |

I don't think so.
I just think there are other places players can play with relative anonymity off the ice, less reporters up their ass all the time, less taxes, and likely more ancillary ways to make money (ie: sponsorship / commercials).
Not to mention, places with a better chance to win.
I do not see Montreal as a free agent destination unless they are a real top 3-4 contender, and even then I still think it would he hard to get players unless overpaying them - which just screws your cap (and hence, chances). |

yeah the pressure in Montreal is definitely an issue, but there are certain personalities that thrive in that environment... It's a poopty place to play in when you have a losing team, but you basically become gods if you manage to win. But I agree, Lafrenière would only be a small start.

and I think it was some sort of childhood dream/weird sadistic fantasy to play in Toronto for Tavares |

that Thanksgiving idea ain't bad... I guess Canada would have adjust to 'Muricas, since for you guys it's almost bigger than Christmas (or maybe it actually is? lol) |

christmas is still bigger but only because we eat almost as much then as we do at thanksgiving (MURICA!).
christmas is bigger to me personally because we always had christmas eve at our house growing up and my mother made it pretty awesome. so even though you get older and realize it's just another day i still really like christmas eve the best. |

the point is : he's not going if there's not a good team over there.
The boy who wants to play for his hometown scenario never happens, Toronto or Montreal. It changed because of the team they put in front of him. |

I thought it might have a different significance in the US but I think both thanksgivings are held to celebrate the harvests or something, and it's on a different date because of the weather.
I'm also sort of a Christmas guy, not religious one bit but having a Christmas tree is a must for me, lots of traditions and memories related to it

Don’t think it would unfortunately, he’d be a building block, a stepping stone, takes more thant that to overcome to scrutiny, the French speaking and the absolutely no anonymity. That’s why when they find a player who thrives in that kind of environment they should keep him, like Radulov or even Domi who loves the spotlight |

speaking of enjoying the spotlight, do you think Kovalchuck will be back at some point? I wouldn't mind it, as long as it doesn't affect the cap, and that he doesn't take away minutes from younger guys who could benefit from the ice time |

yeah, i guess it is kinda the same idea up there as here. we grow up making pilgrim and indian hats out of construction paper in school though. like every year until like 4th grade. i wonder if pilgrims and indians would sit at the same table to eat today..
also not into christmas for the religious reasons. it's just the nicest month of the year and it was always a big deal to us (who didn't want to come see the little twins on christmas eve?!). people hold doors for each other and are more courteous in traffic, etc. everyone just seems to be in a good mood for that one month. |
