This is the worst possible outcome for the fans and the teams, the league likely loves this because the microscope on summer hockey has intensified.

The only fans that will want their teams to win it will be the cup contending teams like Pittsburgh, Carolina, and Toronto. As well as other fans of teams that haven’t fared well recently and were about to catch a break like Vancouver and Edmonton.
