Lowe belongs in the hall. There will be people who bash it, but they are the ones who didn’t watch him play. Huge part of all of his 6 Stanley Cups, and the 84 Canada Cup. One of the best shut down Dmen of his time. And a leader on all of them. Players like him didn’t get enough credit. The guy was a warrior.

I love stay at home defenders. Tough shutdown guys.

Was a long time ago. I was very young but I don't remember Lowe being so good that anyone thought future Hall of fame. He was a distant 3rd or worse behind Coffee and Huddey for me.

A very good player on some incredible teams... not a hall of fame level guy imo.

Now I say that trying to be as unbiased as possible but Lowe is ingrained far more for being a major contributing factor to the decade of darkness and brutal nepotism even gifting his son a brutal ahl career, than he is for his relatively small but successful role on a stacked roster.

Hjalmarsson was a great shutdown dman on Chicago's 3 cup winning teams, puts up about the same production per game, and didn't have the benefit of playing with the 2 NHL all-time leading scorers, as well as arguably the 2nd best PMD in NHL history...……….so i'm assuming you'd be okay with him being voted into the HHOF also?

Lowe being there is embarrassing for the HHOF, especially considering the people he got in ahead of. he was voted in because he's part of the "old boys club" and is buddies with all the guys on the selection committee

Lowe being elected to the Hall of Fame makes a mockery of the Hall. No one would have been surprised had be not been elected.

so how many cups you win is now what gets players into the HHOF? I mean why don't they just elect every player who played on the oilers in the 80's then, or every player who played for the habs in the 60's.

Semenko helped win a bunch of cups by beating the tar out of people who went near Gretzky and Lemieux...….should he be in the HHOF.

team success should have no factor in whether or not a player goes to the HHOF. Lowe is a very good (but not great) player, who had the luxury of playing on arguably the most stacked team in NHL history. the HHOF should be for great players, not good players on great teams.

Kevin Lowe managed all of 18 points in a season where Gretzky scored 215.

Dave (frank)ing Semenko managed to score at a higher rate on that team.

I'd really like to hear some of the rationale by the voters for how Lowe gets in over Mogilny, Flury, Lecavlier, Alfie, Elias, etc.

Additionally, I think Doug Wilson is more deserving of a place over Lowe, but still surprising given the talent listed above.

Lowe was a great Dman. He faced every teams best players his whole career. He made the Canada cup team over a lot of great players, and was a huge part of winning it. He was one of the best leaders of his era. He was the first guy in to protect his players. He played in a system that left him and his goalies all alone and excelled at it. You can believe what you want, I know what I watched. Leadership, elite shutdown dman, 6 cups and a huge Canada Cup to take it back from Russia. He deserves to be in

They should be in, I’m not arguing that. Doesn’t mean Lowe shouldn’t though.

To preface, I agree that Lowe isn't someone I'd choose for the Hall. However, comparing 8 Cups mostly pre-expansion to 6 Cups post-expansion is two completely different animals.

I would have put Mogilny in, instead of Lowe. Besides being such a great player, with a great personality, his defection and story cements his spot in hockey history.

Next year, they can pick from Elias, Lecavalier, and Fleury. And whoever else may start being eligible?

I've been given the impression it was one of the most exciting times to be a fan, but I wouldn't know since I wasn't even a thought in my parent's mind at that point.

yeah, it was great hockey actually. I'm not sure where that guy is coming from. I would rather they go back to that, vs the oversized goalie equipment they use today. but then again, if you roll back the goalie equipment, the sticks they use now would make things insane.

this is because they didn't know what hockey was even supposed to be. There were like 5 guys in the world who were actually good at it.
