I rate Dzingel and Pageau equally in terms of value and rather have two seconds and taking a shot on Duclair than the picks. Both trades were good though. |

I think for me it’s the Dzingel trade because Duclair will probably amount to more than the Isles pick. Now, if that pick is between 13-15 should the Isles fall out in the play-ins then I’d reevaluate. |

Michael Stuart: Dorion's Best Trade: Welcome to the Semifinals! - Michael_Stuart
There is a huge trailing wild card on the Pageau deal.
Expect multiple opportunities for trades with CAP challenged teams.
A first round pick (15 or 21) would be a great return for a team having to deal a quality RFA or top 6 player. Both the Sens and Devils will have the opportunity to move the 3rd of their 3 first round picks for a very good talent.
Also, both the Sens and Devils can take on salary. And, we will be going into a shortened season with the Seattle expansion draft just a few months off.I would move that 3rd pick for one of multiple players that might be available. Right now my target would be Cirelli.

Both are great trades by Dorion because he exceeded the top market value that could be reasonably expected for either player.
I gave the edge to the Dzingel deal with the hope that Duclair rounds out his game and becomes a highly effective top 6 forward in the near term. However, that Isles first round pick could turn out to be gold... |

These trades are a good example of the team finally starting to move away from their previous issue of over-paying to retain secondary players who were impending UFA like Michalek, Smith, Burrows, or Greening.
Objectively, I'd say the Dzingel deal is probably better in terms of relative value - if only because I think Pageau was a more established player at the time of the trade, with a more proven NHL track record. He was also one of the few C available at the deadline, which I think it easier to push for higher value.

Without question my top 5 are:
(1) Alexis Lafreniere
(2) Tim Stutzle (SLAM dunk; big part of me wants him over Lafreniere)
(3) Quinton Byfield
(4) Lucas Raymond
(5) Jamie Drysdale or Alexander Holtz (Holtz if we get Raymond)
If we get Stutzle, get Rossi
If we get Raymond, take Holtz |

I don't know about Cole Perfetti. I feel he'll be a good player but I highly doubt if he's going to be a top line player, why are you so high on him (I'm curious) |

Most if not all if my analysis is based if sites like tsn and the athletic.
They all have him ranked highly, with many putting him in the top 5, some top 4.
He is also a center, and highly skilled, exactly what the sens need (in my opinion) |

From the accounts I've read, Perfetti has absolutely top-notch offensive instincts and awareness, but is more than a bit one dimensional. Given the available talent on the board at pick #4/5, the rest of the package he brings concerns me... including size, skating, work ethic, two-way game, etc. There were similar concerns that came up when he was left off the WJC roster... though they also tend to only take so many draft-eligible players, and Lafreniere/Byfield/Drysdale were pretty much locked in. That said, it's still unclear as to whether he actually projects as a C at the NHL level, especially given the pace and defensive responsibility of that position.
This is where the like of Lafreniere, Raymond, Byfield, and Rossi are quite a bit further ahead in terms of playing in any game situation. Regardless of size, the skating, defensive awareness, and tenacity is just built into those players in a way that should give them a big advantage in terms of the NHL transition. |

Dzingel deal.
That was the only deal of the 3 key ufas where I thought Dorion did excellent.
Duclair put that deal over the top (at least the first half of his season).
Pageau deal was also good, getting that 1st in what is a very deep draft. Obviously where that pick lands plays a factor..but at this point in time, I go Dzingel deal

There was a contact of Pierre Dorian on Team 1200 today who raved about how great Tim Stutzle is. I finally agree SLAM dunk. He basically said there are 3 players who have separated themselves from the pack. Lafreniere, Stutzle and Byfield. After that a lot of prospects will be fighting for fourth, fifth and sixth.
Earlier in the program Shaun Simpson explained why Jake Sanderson was the biggest riser in the draft. He was looked at as the best defensive D Man who could shut down the other teams first line. In the latter part of the season he showed an offensive flair that shocked the scouts. He also had high praise for Cole Perfetti.

I like the Pageau trade best, the Sens are in a major rebuild and having that extra first round pick in the deepest draft in years can only speed things up. The other 2 second round picks are gold for the Senators! My concern is us ending up with the 5-6 picks and Dorian wastes the Islanders pick to move up to fourth. The Logan Brown trade to move up 1 spot still irks me.
Duclair is still a wild card, he was very good for the first part of the year and then disappeared. Which Duclair will show up next season? Hopefully not the one who got traded every year. |

I not agreed with the quote on Duclair. He was hurt and can take advantage of his speed but work all game and goalie make good save. At the end, he was back like the start of the year |

Duclair has a lot of talent but is a hard head. He has to hold the NHL record for being traded his first five years in the NHL. That is not good, his coaches couldn’t get threw to him so goodbye. His agent must have given him the riot act and he responded for a while. I don’t buy the he was injured story, he played poorly for a long time. Basically he connected with DJ Smith like no other coach before him, then his old mind set took over.
This draft should bring in some elite talent and if we pick high enough they could play in the NHL when the season starts. Duclair could benefit if he comes in with the right attitude. If not he will be traded again or moved to the third line.
