The concern with Carter isn't his production, but the complete disappearance of his defensively responsible play. His -21 was worst on the team, by far, and doubly as bad as the next closest forward (Amadio with -11). He's been an absolute boat anchor to the team when he's been out on the ice.

I'd much rather Carter drop down to the 3rd line and play more defensively responsible minutes at the cost to goal and point totals. With Vilardi's line arguably taking over the "2nd line" moniker, Brown and Frk can handle the bulk of the scoring from the right. A "3rd line" of Prokhorkin, Amadio, and Carter that focused on defense first could still put up some secondary scoring, but could help to make the Kings an above-average defensive team next year, something that they absolutely were not this year.

Carter has always been a face-off specialist, so I can see him taking over Stoll's old responsibilities. Put him out in key face-off situations and give him a spot on the PP when defense is secondary (maybe demote him to the 2nd unit).

A repeat of this current season from Carter would be absolutely unacceptable and would likely result in a buyout next summer. He just had surgery the other day to repair a core muscle. We'll see if he's any better or worse as a result come training camp.

Let's celebrate... by firing Jon Rosen! The organization that can afford to throw over $10M at a 35yo Kovalchuk can't afford a little over $100K to keep their most important connection with the fanbase. Replacing him will be Ben Shelley, who works for peanuts and was looking for a 6th job.

Ben Shelly works so hard that double shifting in the NHL is now referred to as "pulling a Shelly."
