if you defund police forces (less money for salaries and education) it will be even worse qualified people making sure some general accepted rules are enforced in a specific place.

why do you say it's worse qualified people? its not getting rid of policing, it's saying that the existing structure in that place is so badly flawed that is has to be replaced with something new. hard to criticize the new thing until you see it. also it makes sense to move money into community programs

there are 1000s of things that make sense.
putting money into community programs is one.
but to dismantle a police force (and i'm in particular referring to people suggesting to 'defund police' as in getting rid of police) is utterly stupid.
one would laugh about the situation in US if it wasn't that sad.
to consider themselves 'the best country in the world' is utterly dumb.
(btw, there was a nice perspective about many countries in the world 'feeling US's knee on their necks for many many years')

the proposal is to get rid of the police department and build something new. that has on the table in Minneapolis where they have concluded that the existing force is so corrupted and so bad for blacks it can't continue.

why assume that an overall reduction in budget and shift to community supports means less money for training and salaries. Why not cut back on the whole militarization policing where they spend money on armored personnel carriers, assault rifles, submachine guns, flashbang grenades, grenade launchers, sniper rifles, etc.

training can be good and bad. obviously it depends on what you're training and what police methods are in place. Chauvin was training when he killed George Floyd.
