Disagree with reopening season, or states reopening the economy, fine.
Calling people maniacs for going to get haircut and going to restaurants after state reopening is just another example of you being a douchebag

That seems like a pretty lame thing to complain about man, give me a break. I would say in six years of writing here that is the most minor thing a person has eve whined about. |

Catch Me If You Can is really underrated. Feels like a film Scorsese was going to direct and then Spielberg took over and made all the drugs/alcoholism fun and friendly. |

I can see that, but Scorsese would have taken all the fun out of it. |

The list of experts that have been wrong about many things concerning this pandemic is long. In all but the hot spots, we should be opening up and starting to live again. The virus is here. A recent data collection in NY city found that 66% of new infections were in people who were locked down at home! Pay special care to the elderly and more vulnerable and take precautions and do it smartly but it's time to open up. Arizona has had 1200 cases and 624 deaths. I would bet the number of active cases is very small. No reason why they can't open up. |

So the stats to judge whether he was a good defensemen didn't exist back then. Hmm, I wonder if there is another way to assess players...like say...WATCH the games. Just hilarious that you think its all about stats.
As for relying on science...the British epidemiologist Neil Ferguson led the efforts to develop the model that was eventually presented to numerous world leaders, including Boris Johnson and Trump. His alarming research projecting millions of deaths prompted rapid shutdowns. He urged everyone to stay home, practice social distancing. Sadly he tested positive for the virus, but not surprising given his role. As he recovered at home, alone, he then allowed a married woman into his home that he was having an affair with. So much for extreme social distancing from the good doctor. After a few episodes of coming and going, she then carried the virus from the doctor to her unsuspecting husband who was home looking after her two kids. When discovered, our famous doctor quit his job in shame, with his models off by a factor of 28 times. Totally wrong. Total hypocrite. Typical liberal. Do as I say, but the rules don't apply to me. Look it up... |

Calling people maniacs for going out after being quarantined for two months is a douchebag thing to say, but hey, par for the course for you |

Tanner, you should check out the poster "DutchCanSaveUs" in the main blog. I'm sure you'd find his takes about Corona fascinating. |

You're sadly mistaken if you think being a hypocrite is a liberal thing, it's a human trait and has nothing to do with where you are on the political spectrum.

Tanner, You don't know if a player is any good without a stat? He was playing while you were a blogger for this team. Try watching a game! Have you ever seen a hockey game? You're pathetic! |

He spends his time watching movies and listening to music. But hockey knowledge comes from naturalstatrick. My knowledge comes from playing to a double A level, and then watching 10,000+ games. Zbynek Michalek is ranked way too high here. He was a steady depth d-man, and nothing more. His little bother Milan was a pretty decent middle 6 scorer though.

Michalek is being awarded this rank for his long history with the Yotes, I really don't think there is an embarassment of riches...I expect to see Derek Morris very soon too. |

The culture of the NHL is that if a player is big, physical, blocks shots, and throws big checks then he is said to be good defensively.
If the coach uses him on the PK or in the last minute of a game, then a player who does all the stuff listed above usually gets labeled as a good defensive player, almost universally.
But in the last decade, the use of advanced stats has routinely proven that players who fit the above profile are actually not very valuable and often have negative impact on the games.
It turns out that a "bad" defensive player who can move the puck up the ice and contribute offensively prevents more goals for this team than the so-called stay-at-home-defenseman.
I remember that I was a fan of Michalek. But knowing what I know now, I question whether he was actually good.
I mean, if an NHL coach can make the mistake of thinking a Polak is actually helping his team, of course a lousy blogger like me should question the things he sees in a game.
I mean, it's not like I've watched a least one game per day every day for 27.5 years like the other champ in this thread, but it seems reasonable to me. |
