July 2022

11.6m - Auston Matthews
11.0m - John Tavares
10.9m - Mitch Marner
6.96m - William Nylander
5.63m - Jake Muzzin
3.50m - Alex Kerfoot
3.40m - Andreas Johnsson
2.00m - Justin Holl

RFA - Kasperi Kapanen
RFA - Rasmus Sandin
RFA - Timothy Liljegren

51.6m committed. Freddy will likely bring that close to 60m. So that leaves $ to resign Morgan Rielly, those RFAs.... and fill out the roster; way to go Dubas

The dude is a bit of tumbleweed bounced along between all these odd and sometimes malevolent forces including his buddy the Goodman character. As they say at the beginning, he’s just a man, maybe a hero. I think he’s a kind of Dubya Bush character (the dude, that is)

Good call man I never made the connection with the literal tumbleweed sequence at the beginning, and I've seen that movie dozens of times.

It's a great movie. Don't the tumbleweeds return at the end when he has a beer in the bowling alley with Sam Sheppard?

My other favorite Cohen bros. is 'Inside Llewyn Davis'. It's definitely darker than Lebowski but man is it good filmmaking. Also love 'O Brother Where Art Thou?'. They have a monumental career, the Cohens.

I haven't even seen that one yet. There's a few of their later ones I've missed.

Iceland

1650 cases

750 recoveries

6 deaths

Test, test, test

This is a country that tests everyone, even asymptomatic people. Wish the world could do the same.

- Santo_44

Iceland doesn't test 'everyone'.
What they did really really well is to start testing early (mid Feb or so) - and to follow up any positive tests with quarantines and contact tracing+testing of contacts.

Iceland has a population of around 350thousand. Did approx 18000 tests. That's approx 5% of population.

What helps is that is it easier to acquire 50k tests kits (probably around 500k USD investment) than 5million test kits (not available) - in particular if you're before other countries with your order.

But test-test-test is only helpful if you 1/ have enough kits to test people suspected to be infected 2/ have the capacity to follow up on test results (quarantine/treat, contact tracing etc.).

All of our countries will need to go to the Iceland (and Singapore) model in 6-10 weeks from now - the problem is that in most countries we might not be able to maintain current measures in place (because 'the economy') - and then 3-4 weeks after 'reopening' we'll be back to where we were in Feb/March.

If the NHL would be able to run some sorts of playoffs, they could potentially make some additional money on it (if broadcasting companies are willing to renegotiate with NHL) - just because probably the games would be the only live sports event (of importance) around the world and public interest could increase by x10 or so..

(hey, why not in Iceland - they must have at least 1 ice rink there )

51.6 mln. So roughly double what Melnyk will spend on your entire roster? What’s the cap ceiling in 2022? This is Toronto son we’re always going to spend to it.

It’s not even July 2020 yet, and this loser is beating his micro-penis off to a potential cap problem for the Leafs...2 years from now.

Maybe he forgot that time the Leafs had a contract problem name Phaneuf, so they traded it to Ottawa.

Zaitsev was never the problem. He was the best Leafs D in his own zone last year's playoffs vs Bruins together with Hainsey. I liked Zaitsev.

He's still 4x better than Ceci, and I like him more as a fit for the Leafs D core than Barrie. Barrie is gone after this year anyways, or at least will be more expensive on his new contract than Zaitsev, so the whole 'get rid of Zaitsev 4.5mln' argument is not that valid.

I’ve seen it so many times and just kind of pulled that together when Wedgie complained about Walter (Goodman character). You just see the dude as this lovable, mostly passive guy who kind of follows along what everybody else including Walter is doing. When you add in how he keeps quoting Dubya and saying things like this aggression will not stand when he’s getting the poop kicked out of him, it just kinda seemed like a similarity. Bush just kind of seems like the dude, just out of it.nindont know maybe Walter is his Cheney.

Really stretching now

Lol yeah he just picks up whatever is said around him. Like 'the Dude abides'.

I love how the plot is the byzantine mess of outlandish characters that really doesn't have any point, clearly taken from film noir. The millionaire, the pornographer, the feminist performance artist, Jesus the pedophile bowler, the tv writer in an iron lung lol....and the Dude is this drunk stoner just dealing.

Every scene and every line is just classic. I saw an interview with Tuturro, talking about the introduction of Jesus sequence, the slo-mo bowling. He said he came in and did that scene one day, and then when he saw it how they put it together he was like oh no, they're going to be play this at my funeral lololol

Lol yeah with the Latino version of 'Hotel California' in the background...no surprise, since the dude HATES the Eagles....lol...CCR yes, the Eagles no (frank)ing way, man....lolz

Epic filmmaking.

Also, the 'other' Jeffrey Lebowski's mansion is also a reference to Citizen Kane.

That’s right. He was almost as freaked out about his missing CCR tape as the missing money when his car was stolen.

Their other movie that doesn’t get enough love is Blood Simple, a nice dark piece of work.

Couple of observations when you make it. It calls for a (frank) of a lot of olive oil, which since it is a Spanish recipe probably isn’t surprising. If you have a really good oil that will add to the taste, I’d say go for it. Otherwise, maybe cut it back a bit.

Adding the eggs at the end gives it an egg drop soup feel which is cool. If you’re just eating a portion of your first batch, maybe separate how much you’re going to eat and add a smaller amount of egg to it. Not sure you want the egg sitting in the big batch if it’s going to be a while before you eat it all.

It was a very different kind of soup but I enjoyed it.

Hey Max, do you eat a lot of garlic soup?
