Monahan must have really been bad this season based on how you have been writing about him.

Take out Monahan's rookie year, and this year was his worst by a mile. He had his worst year in every possible way except his faceoff numbers were up a bit. He even had more penalty minutes than he's ever had before.

If you extrapolate his numbers this year over an 82 game season Mony would have had 25 goals and 56 points which is not far off his career averages. That's not horrible but its not what you want from a number 1 C making 6.3 mil either.

Bottom line Mony does not have the complete game great teams must have from a number 1 C but he takes way more crap than he deserves from this fan base.

Nothing really went wrong. He's always been a pretty mediocre centre who gets hot a couple of times a year. He just got less hot this year. He kind of peaked at 21.

Last year was the first time he was a consistent top guy for a long stretch, and even then he disappeared after the all-star break.

-I’ve been a monahan fan since his rookie year but I feel like at some point over the last three years he stopped developing and became complacent with just being Johnny’s wingman. Even in the success of last year he looked like he was feeding off of gaudreault’s success rather than adding to it. Personally I don’t like our odds to win a cup with him as our 1C given the 1C’s who have won it over the last decade. I would feel more confident if we could also move lindholm to the middle but that would have depended on acquiring a top six winger which is now unlikely due to what this hiatus will do to the cap.

-As far as gaudreau goes I think most of his trade speculation is do to the fear that he will leave in free agency when he gets the chance. This is something that has gone back to when he had the chance to go somewhere else coming out of the NCAA.

I can’t say what will or won’t happen but I definitely would not move Johnny this off-season. He is coming off one of the worst years of his career and while the return would still be good it would not be what it would have been a year ago. Sure he’s a one dimensional player but at a 6.75 cap hit I don’t think that’s an issue given what he can do. Most teams would be foolish to trade a guy that good and also on a steal of a contract.

Monahan is too worried about his hair. Gaudreau is worried about partying. These guys will never win. Wait until Kneeordano falls off a cliff. Hello lottery?

Do people believe that is good enough to match up against Colorado, Boston, St. Louis, and Tampa Bay in a 7 game series?

Sure maybe we could beat them with a lot of luck and a hot tender. But if the best we are hoping for is a repeat of 2004 than I wonder if this team does not need a retool.

You can blame this season on Peters, but besides that one winning streak when Ward started, this team has not shown they are the same team that was dominating 2 years ago.

Flames have just looked too pedestrian for too many games for far too long. Retool time.
