We never have a real number one in this franchise. If he clear the top 10 , I try to trade up with the Isles pick

Top goalies in the past 10-15 years:

01) 1st round - 05th overall - Price
02) 1st round - 21st overall - Raask
03) 4th round - 93rd overall - Holtby
04) 7th round - 205th overall - Lundqvist
05) 9th round - 217th overall - Thomas
06) 1st round - 19th overall - Vasilevskiy
07) 5th round - 138th overall - Miller
08) 1st round - 1st overall - Fluery
09) 8th round - 258th overall - Rinne
10) Undrafted - Bobrovsky

Top Goalie taken in past drafts:
19) Spencer Knight
18) Olof Lindbom
17) Jake Oettinger
16) Carter Hart
15) Ilya Samsonov

14) Mason McDonald
13) Zachary Fucale
12) Andrei Vasilevskiy (4 picks after Ceci)
11) Magnus Hellberg (Gibson RIGHT after)
10) Jack Campbell
09) Mikko Koskinen
08) Chet Pickard
07) Joel Gistedt
06) Jonathan Bernier
05) Carey Price

It's certainly an interesting debate. I think it's less likely that the top goalie selected will be the top goalie when it's all said and done.

This is a really interesting way to frame it too. Thanks for pulling it together.

What do you think we are going to do about our center ice. If they don't take a top end center I'm not sure how much my confidence is in Logan Brown. I'm very open to trading him unless he proves himself by 2021. White, Pinto, Norris are solid pieces but not the top end center we need IMO. Thoughts?

I think Norris' potential sits a little higher than White, Pinto. But I take your point. It wouldn't surprise me to see at least one C taken in the first round.

Askarov and Drysdale are the two players OTT needs to avoid like the plague, both if picked in the top 5-10 by OTT will obliterate their rebuild and turn the team into the panthers/coyotes of the north.

Byfield, Stutzle, Parfetti and Rossi will all play in the NHL. They can all play centre and they have the potential of playing at an elite level. Stutzle has also played wing.

Good chance Sens come out of the draft with two elite centres as top 5 picks.

I hear you.
Pinto can play RW too. I don't think White can.

But the question with Norris is always whether he's going to be able to be a consistent point producer at the pro level. He did in the AHL, but I'm not confidence he'll hit more than 60pt. Turris was a top 3 pick and only hit 60p 1 time in his career (3 successful years total)

I guess we all agree that Norris is ahead of L.Brown now, right?

I wonder what people think should happen with Logan Brown; I'd look at a trade Lias Andersson

Hope so man, I'm not sure having Rossi or Perfetti is something I'm in favor of, and height / strength are key factors. Those are strong assets in playoffs

I don't know man, I just think having Raymond and Holtz, 2 sweeds that remind me so much of old school Sweeds like Zetterberg, that would amazing to have in Ottawa. Also would be a new wave of sweeds in Ottawa with Brannstrom on D. These guys have amazing drive and I think there's a lot of potential there that people will look back. Holtz seems a bit cocky but it's not a bad think when it comes to on the ice

What's your version of a top end center. Obviously the skills set of the prospects in the system doesn't impress you.

I don't know, man: I realize the conventional wisdom is the Kings are short on defensive prospects and, therefore, they'll take the best defender in the draft. But, assuming they stay at 4 and Lafreniere, Byfield, and Stutzle are gone, I can't see Blake passing on Holtz, Raymond, Perfetti, or even Rossi and drafting for need.

It all depends if you think those 3 players are better than Drysdale. Most mock drafts I’ve seen have him in the top 4. He’s also had a great year for a draft eligible Dman and while he only had limited minutes as the 7th Dman at the world juniors he stood out while he was on the ice. Top D are harder to come by than forewords and he has the makings of becoming one.

With that said I can see Ottawa passing him over because they already have bernard-docker/Thomson as RD’s as and I don’t follow then sens too much but I remember seeing somewhere Brannstrom prefers the right side as well.

I've seen Drysdale all over the mock draft sites, too, from top 3 to the bottom of the top 10. I just think the top of the draft has too much forward talent to ignore.

The Sens need W & D so I don't expect them to draft centers unless they project them as W. Brown is slotted as #1 center. He'll be a 25+g 55+a.

I guess we clearly have different values of players. It seems I’m higher on Drysdale than you and I definitely would say I’m not as high on holtz/Raymond as you, (I’d consider Perfetti/Rossi over both but they are more risk reward). I think the 2 Swedes can develop into very good first line players but not quite elite. To adapt your last line to my opinion, the i think the idea of adding an elite Dman is too much to ignore. For me it would be like the decision to pass up on makar for a foreword.

I wouldn’t take either if I was Ottawa given their current prospect pool. I’m higher on Askarov than others but there are very few teams that should consider taking that risk in the top 10. I think Drysdale is going to be elite but given the sens currently have uber D prospects along with Chabot I see them taking a forward.

The player I avoid is lundell. Haven’t even seen him play but every analysis call him a slow defensive Center. He got a good chance to become an nhler but typically you don’t try to select what sounds like a 3rd line Center inside the top 15
