Okposo off the top of my head but as much as I have always been a fan of Jeff Skinner and was happy to have acquired him...
Sabres should seriously consider it. |

I'm hoping it's 2. Abdelkader and Nielsen. Nielsen is old and washed up. Abdelkader has zero pride and steals money from the Red Wings each time he plays. If it's just 1, buyout Nielsen and let Abdelkader ride the bus in Grand Rapids for 3 more years. |

I would love the pens to lose the jack johnson contract. Will never happen though as he is one of sid's BFFs and sullivan likes that he tries to hit people. Misses the puck and exposes his partner in doing so, skates like he is in mud but....... |

If that's even the slightest bit true, it was nice knowing you Kyle Turris. You've been better, but not 6mil a year better. |

No way. Skinner has to go. 7 more years @ 9 million per for a guy with 63 points as his career high?
That's one of the WORST contracts in the NHL. |

It's ironic Leafs are poster boys for being in cap hell, yet it's very difficult to point to any contract to buyout. Any deal can be moved by thyem. |

Didnt skinner score 40 goals last year?? Yea make sure to give him the boot. No place on a roster for that!!
I'm an isles fan I wish we had a scorer like skinner |

Jordan Staal, I guess?
I like him, and he still brings a lot to the table, but 6 million might be a bit steep especially now that Aho and Trochek are in the fold. |

The issue is he did it once in a contract year. What are the chances he does it again? And that contract taskes him into his past his prime years.
It's horrible.
And Lou overpaying a guy until he's mid 30's? Sounds right. |

They paid him about 2 million more than he would have received in free agency. But that is what Buffalo has to do to keep good players at this point. |

IMO, they overpaid by about 1M, but you are right on the second part |

Sharks:
It would need to be at D
Vlasic: Solid Defensive Dman (6yrs @ 7M) Age 33
Burns: PP specialist ,Weak Defensive (5yrs@ 8M) Age 35
Karlsson Passing ability, Injuries (7yrs@ 11.5M) Age 29
My Pick :
Burns , With his age at 35 already , I just don't see him keeping those numbers
for another 5 years . and he is already weak on Defense . |

Noah Dobson. Giving a rookie with ZERO NHL EXPERIENCE a three year contract is INSANE. |

The issue is they keep doing the same mistake. They are paying 15 million for 2 wingers in Okposo and Skinner. Brutal. They also traded twice for Vesey. I would say fire the GM but how many times can they do that?

Blues are in a pretty good spot without glaring contract mistakes. Probably Alexander Steen. $5.75mm for 2020-21 is probably too much for his contribution. Comes off the books after next season. Jake Allen is also a problem, but his cap hit is only $4.35mm for one more season. |

It would probably help if they had a cohesive plan and were given the power to actually see it through from ownership. |

This would have to be negotiated through the CBA. Buyouts are part of that agreement. Now IF they negotiate a new CBA during the time off, then perhaps. Without that CBA, this is not an option. |

Ironically, it was celebrated when they got new ownership years ago. It seems to me that owner is putting pressure to rush things (Which ironically is taking longer). Fronm day 1 they've been making rushed signings/tradesd and have not stopped.

Chicago Blackhawks - Brent Seabrook
He was great for the Cup winning teams, but he is a shell of himself and just had three major surgeries.
With a cap hit of $6.875 through the end of the 23/24 season, yeah, buh-bye. |

Oilers:
James Neal would be my pick. The term of the deal needs to come off the books.
They could resign him to a lower AAV and term after, but that existing term is a killer. |

Has to be Jack Johnson right?! Hear me out, maybe not in this scenario. He might be better as a regular buyout candidate at this point given his AAV ($3.25) and that Pitt is carrying any other buyout penalties at this point. Heck he could even play in Ottawa as a "veteran-presence" if Pitt attaches a pick for their rebuild.
I think the albatross that Pitt can address in this scenario is Patric Hornqvist. His AAV over the next 3 years is $5.3M. He is a round peg in a square hole for this team. He's a dump-and-chase RW, on a speed/skill/possession team. His biggest asset is a net-front presence, and he's damn good at it still. He doesn't fit well with Sid and Jake/Zucker and Rust is a great fit with Malkin. That leaves a $5.3 AAV, almost 34-year old player on the 3rd or 4th line going forward. That's a luxury a contending Cup team can't afford with this cap.
He cannot stay consistently healthy at this point in his career. He offers little defensively. Guentzel has proven he can play that position on the PP1. Outside of being a PP specialist in the crease on the 2nd PP line, there's no return on the investment going forward.
Pitt would be so much better off spending that space on a right-handed, speed winger who is a better fit with Sid or even the 3rd line and play on the left-side of the PP OR on a defenseman to replace Schultz/Johnson next year. Sheary could be brought back to play with Sid for cheap if they go the D route. They will need to replace at least 2 on the blue line.
