Bringing VICTORO311's post from the last thread:

How's it going fellas. Hope everyone is staying home and healthy. Buddy of mine sent this over in his lock-in boredom and was wondering how you all would play it:

Using the following price list, draft the best starting lineup (3F, 2D, 1G) you can out of the following American players! (Each price tier has 3F, 2D, 1G). Price cap is $18.

$5: Modano, Kane, Hull, Chelios, Leetch, Quick

$4: LaFontaine, Matthews, K. Tkachuk, Housley, Carlson, Richter

$3: Mullen, Roenick, Eichel, R. Suter, S. Jones, Bishop

$2: Amonte, Oshie, Gaudreau, M. Howe, G. Suter, Miller

$1: Guerin, Kessel, Broten, Yandle, K. Hatcher, Vanbiesbrouck

My team:

I think the dumbest thing you can do is draft Quick. Eichel looks like the brainer center in this. I’m probably gonna splurge on a Leetch-Chelios defense to help hide Miller a bit (I think prime Miller can get the job done). With the three remaining bucks I'll pick up Johnny Hockey and The Phil as my wingers. Forward two way play is a bit suspect but that’s a ton of speed and scoring and an elite, well rounded blue line that can really facilitate offense and get the puck moving in the opposite direction behind Leetch and help make up for forward defensive deficiencies behind Chelios. Kinda feel like this would fit the identity the current Pens are going for.

Gaudreau-Eichel-Kessel
Chelios-Leetch
Miller

Considering the $18 price tag, I'd pick the following to go to war with:

Roenick-LaFontaine-Modano
R.Suter-K.Hatcher
Miller

I am thinking every player at their best here. Hard picks to make. I passed on a couple guys I'd like to see on my team lol

Gaudreau-Eichel-Kane
Ryan Suter-Hatcher
Bishop

I’d try and keep as much scoring punch, speed, and offensive creativity as possible and have bishop in net when there are defensive lapses.

I went for a potent two-way group with Roenick and Modano taking the defensive load, leaving LaFontaine (many people forget how good he was offensively) to free wheel. R.Suter and K.Hatcher is a good duo.

Amonte-LaFontaine-Mullen
Chelios-Howe
Miller

Agree LaFontaine before injuries derailed him was amazing and I locked in on him for my top forward at 4. Wanted to splurge for Chelios too. Howe for 2 was a bargain for a Hall of Famer so love my defense. Agree with everyone saying Miller at his best for 2 is a great bargain. Rounded it out with a couple value snipers with over 900 goals between them. Amonte is another forgotten gem who was consistent 30 or 40 goal guy who killed penalties in his 20s.

The Athletic did a group chat and interestingly all 3 guys around the Pens think Marleau will want to return. I have trouble seeing them having room honestly. Jake and Zucker are the top 6 LWs, ZAR will be the 4th line LW, and McCann and Simon are options there as well as a prospect like Poulin or O'Connor.

Best hockey I've read the past few days is Kingerski got an interview with Scotty Bowman.

On Badger Bob and the Pens 90s back to back Cups and failure the next year: https://pittsburghhockeyn...-chat-with-scotty-bowman/

On Mike Sullivan (he seems to be a fan, which makes sense with both Bowman's success and reputation with players): https://pittsburghhockeyn...ttsburgh-penguins-scheme/
