I fail to see the merit in any argument for anyone but Mackinnon, Panarin, or Draisaitl. Mackinnon for carrying his team through serious injuries and being amazing doing so, Panarin for being a dominant 5-on-5 force (especially relative to his team) and Draisaitl being a dominant force through the majority of the season (remove his December and goal share is elite). I'd probably lean Mackinnon.

This is ridiculous. Not only did I provide a solid argument, but it's a very clear situation. Who is the best player in the NHL at 5v5? Cause that player should be the MVP.

The guy who leads in goals, almost leads in primary points, has the best Corsi, and the best expected goal percentage (as well as the best goals-for percentage, though that one I'd have to look up. Either way he's getting like 60% of the goals).

Eh, with Mathews in the race for the Rocket, its so crazy.

Draistle or Mackinnon should win though.

Jesus tanner, in this time of COVID-19 I really thought you’d make a bigger attempt to stop licking (frank)ing windows........guess not.

Caught me with my stupid tolerance at zero.

If the regular season ended today Leon Draisaitl should run away with this trophy.

Should.

I realize Eastern Media is (frank)ing retarded and hates the Oilers. Even a close vote will confirm the ridiculous bias or pure ignorance against the Oilers and Leon Draisaitl.

Matthews a two-way center? Not a chance! He doesn’t even play the Leafs’ PK. Got off the glue

His actual GF% is 58.9 which is below 57 other players including some better choices for the prize (Panarin, Mackinnon, Pastrnak/Marchand).

Corsi is a poor argument but, even if I use it, he's 53rd in that.

His xGF is 10th (2nd among forwards) and is a solid argument.

He's 11th in 5-on-5 points overall but 1st in goals which is a solid case.

His relGF% has him in 30th and his relxGF% places him 43rd.

If you're going to make sweeping claims about stats and your fervent semi-religious belief in them, at least do the bare minimum research beforehand.

An MVP should help his team more at 5v5 where 80% of the game is played.

Got to adjust for ice time though. He should rank a lot higher if you only include his peers.

So his goal and shot shares (both expected and not) would increase if given more ice time? Do you have evidence for such an assertion?

EDIT: Nevermind, I now see Matthews is 3rd in 5-on-5 ice time in the league. I was still of the mindset that he was being held back in that respect (ala Babcock).

As you've requested, among his PEERS (900mins at 5-on-5 and above), he ranks as follows:

CF: 16th
GF: 17th
xGF: 9th
relGF: 11th
relxGF: 14th

Sorry guys, Matthews is not even in the top 5 best 2-way centers... He's sick, he's a dynamo offensively, but to say he's the best 2-way in the league? I need to be smoking what guys are, hook a brother up! Hands-DOWN Sean Couturier is a better 2-way, Bergeron, Kopitar, Tavares, Horvat, I could name 5 more easily...

Matthews doesn't even play many PK minutes? If you watch the games, he even visually doesn't play at the defensive acumen the centers' I mentioned?

I think the Hart belongs to McDavid. I don’t see how you could give it to any other Oiler.

He has more takeaways than all those listed players. And the offensive game is missing from many of those.

You’re one of the leaf fans who argued for years that karlsson didn’t deserve his Norris trophies cuz he didn’t play on the PK.
