"Anybody who thinks they’ll be back at it in 30 days, hasn’t really been paying attention to our planet’s pandemic. Unless we know something over here that isn’t known elsewhere, this thing is gonna keep the Leafs from finally winning the Stanley Cup."

Half of me agrees with you. The other half believes that our notoriously short attention spans will fade within the next month or so as the next shiny object appears, regardless of what is actually happening with the virus.

good catch.

For those counting Stasny had 9 5v5 points in 19 games and so far Eakin has 5 5v5 points in 8 games played. Strong under the radar pick up for the 2nd line - but lots needs to be proved before this can be considered a long term solution.

10-14 days until Grid Down. Prepare for food shortages, power outages and water out of tap being unsafe. Internet could follow suit. No one will be working to maintain the current structure. Hope I’m wrong but better safe than sorry. Prep Now People.

So projections by the best viral flu experts have this thing peaking in early to Mid May at 700MM- 1 BB people worldwide. If the curve flattens then may be somewhat earlier. That might mean a mid-June resumption if we have one. I really don't think the NHL is going to go just on points percentage. It just doesn't seem fair to some teams who had to play more games on the road, had easier opponents left, easier travel schedule. My belief is that they do allow a one or possibly three-game series to qualify for those last 16 spots amongst teams that are close. In our conference that would mean Winnipeg, Minny, Nashville, and Vancouver. I'd guess Jets would play the Wild. After 82 games it may have come down to the same tight scenario anyways.

After that, I would think the first two series would be five games and the final two seven games. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter if it goes until late August and then the new season resumed still in October because the players just got half their summer vacation early. Part of the problem with starting much earlier than late June or July is that with all the travel bans it might be difficult for players to get back to their teams. Laine for example on the Jets, or any European players getting back to the US. Three weeks and hockey again......not a chance !

I do think the season will finish so I really hope the Jets get a favorable decision here. They worked so hard under so many unfortunate circumstances that they truly do deserve a shot.

Can't see the season re-starting until at least a month, maybe nore byw hat you say.

IF the season re-starts, can't see the NHL leaving out any team that was in or reasonably close to a playoff position. Maybe a best-of-three between the teams that have a legitimate wild card shot. Can't see them leaving teams like the Jets/Wild/etc out unless they get to play more games.

As far as players getting back, the players, like Laine, have been told to stay in their home city, so this shouldn't be a problem for those that listen.

Think for a moment about all the GM's that spent their first round pick on a rental this year...I'm sure they'll be screaming into their empty arenas...

Great pick ups by Chevy this year...hoping we can sign both DeMelo and Eakin.

Was thinking about that yesterday, Tampa spent three 1st round picks on at best third line players who both have an extra year of term, if the season is cancelled those already bad trades are gonna look even worse.

I hope they can sign DeMelo but not Eakin.

Lots of time now for Buff to get into shape in time for the resumption of the season.

Maybe Little could be back as well ?

Possibly all for one game ! Fun to speculate on the unthinkable.

I think the Devils did quite well also, those two organizations look to have pretty bright futures as long as ownership doesn't mess it up.

Not paying their part-time workers through the down time?

What horrible HORRIBLE people chipman and thomson are.

ABSOLUTELY DESPICABLE!!!

No one should support this franchise ever again!!!

Rot in hell david thomson...not all of us were not as fortunate in life as you to inherit your dad’s billions.

A truly odious person!!!

Harsh words without all the details available. What if the season resumes in 3 or 4 weeks... do those casual/part time employees then essentially get paid twice? Does this really cause a hardship considering that for many or most this is a second job, often ‘the fun job’.

I worked a year for Winnipeg enterprises in ‘93-94 as a second job. We worked all arena &stadium events including jets games, concerts, bomber games, rainbow stage, imax and more. It was great work for a fun second job and the money was welcomebut not irreplaceable.

The absolute opposite of harsh...i am being kind when i say that those 2 losers are scum.

I don’t think you understand how empathy or math works.

$1,000,000,000 - $100,000 =

$1,000,000,000

Hey jets fans...time to find a new team...
Your owners are scum of the earth!!!

They actually don’t work for true north. 80% of these people work for centerplate. I’m not saying true north shouldn’t support the part timers they do employ but the media not correcting this is just poor journalism

Don’t worry about the journalism...
David thomson is worth over 40 billion dollars...this is not about journalism...this is about a billionaire choosing to make the greedy self-centred choice.

People need to make the choice to NOT support the businesses of human gatbage like the david thomson’s of the world.
These losers spit on every day working class people every chance they get...and he expects that we won’t remember later? It’s all good? That we peons get the privilege of buying the shtty tix and shtty merch and the shtty concession stand garbage for his halfbillion dollar toy???

No thanks. I’m a flyer’s fan...if the organization ever treated its workers or its fans in such a sub-human way...it would be bloody war!!! We would NEVER tolerate it!!!

Would it matter to you if you learned that Thompson is already subsidizing the Jets for millions each year? Or that in the end if play resumes they may end up working for the same number of home games and not lose a dollar from this? Or is this a petty personal issue that you have concerning the wealthy?

I lived in winnipeg the first 22 years of my life. His name is thomson. He subsidizes the jets millions each year??? Where do you get this propaganda...from his horsesht media outlets? My petty issue is when some loser billionaire heir like thomson has such disregard for his fellow humans and community as a whole.
It goes to show you the sickness of the capitalist system when people that barely have 2 nickels to rub together a day after pay day...go to bat to defend greedy billionaires...that’s like a millionaire only a thousand times more.

Funny i made the exact same comments in calgary’s forum earlier today...they had the same craven cheapskate position as thomson and his little weasel flunky mark chipman...calgary flames have now changed their tune...hourly workers getting paid.

Never be a billionaire shill...it’s never a good look.

No one said the Jets are for sure being subsidized but his deep pockets were brought on-board with True North not so much because of his desire to own a hockey team but because he felt there should be an NHL team in Winnipeg... this was money he put at risk because of national pride.

My point was that we don't know details about Jets finances and where Thompson spends and gives his money - and it is foolish to assume what we know and don't know. none of our business either. We don't know (didn't know last week at least) if workers would be out any money at all due to the suspension of league. Employment insurance is a little different in Canada than USA and workers would be in a different situation.

so glad you held Ed Snider and now Comcast to the same standard of socializing wealth.

I agree there are more important things than professional sports. This whole situation has given me much perspective. I used sports as a distraction from being present. This situation has taught me the importance of looking out for those that are less fortunate and need love, care and compassion. The whole sports industry with millionaire athletes and billionaire owners has lost complete touch with the realities that many of us face.

I think that after the scare is done, I will most likely not watch as much sports as before. Life is short and I want to spend it with loved ones and finding other enjoyable activities.
