I don't care one bit about 3rd in the division. With this teams inconsistent play all year, they're fortunate to be in the mix at all, so the goal right now should be to just make it in, not worrying about the seeding. Two encouraging, but by no means decisive wins over Dallas, doesn't mean we should start talking about catching up to the top 3. Especially for a team still struggling to stay above the playoff line, and another two game losing streak away from being 10th or 11th in the conference again. Just make it in and see what happens... All this other talk is nonsense.

This team is not in the playoffs, oddly NHL.com and ESPN put Nashville ahead of Vancouver for the final wildcard. But TSN and Sportsnet in Canada put Vancouver ahead of Nashville. Both teams are tied in games played but 1 team gets every single tie breaker including winning % rows, team +/- in its favor. If the regular season is now complete and when players return goes straight to playoffs the standings today actually matter. Curious the league's official web site especially is wrong on this for the last week and counting, such a glaring error kinda makes NHL look bush.

Preds have one more Regulation Win than Canucks and are therefore ahead in the standings per tie-breaker rules currently in effect.

From the NHL - tiebreaker rules in the order they are applied:

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order.

The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).

The greater number of games won, excluding games won in Overtime or by Shootout (i.e., "Regulation Wins"). This figure is reflected in the RW column.

The greater number of games won, excluding games won by Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.

The greater number of games won by the Club in any manner (i.e, "Total Wins"). This figure is reflected in the W column.

The greater number of points earned in games against each other among two or more tied clubs. For the purpose of determining standing for two or more Clubs that have not played an even number of games with one or more of the other tied Clubs, the first game played in the city that has the extra game (the "odd game") shall not be included. When more than two Clubs are tied, the percentage of available points earned in games among each other (and not including any "odd games") shall be used to determine standing.

The greater differential between goals for and against (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the DIFF column.

The greater number of goals scored (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the GF column.

NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.
