Wayne Simmonds will stick around a few more years based on his off-ice "intangibles" and his name. But if you just look at his on-ice production the past 3 years, he's nothing more than a 4th liner.

Glad to see we didn't give Palms away for nothing. I could see him being captain of this team next year.

My big question is what does our D line gonna look like next year?...Subban,Severson, Carrick and Butcher our only locked up vets for next year...Will Bahl and Ty Smith be ready to go?...could we look at resigning Vats away from Carolina?...Could Greene be back on a 1 year deal?(and only if its 1 year)...what free agents could we look at...Brodie, Shattenkirk, Tanev?..would think we are at least signing 1 big free agent as lord knows we have ton of cap room so far...Kuokkanen and Foote maybe can get a chance to earn spots in F rotation we shall see...I am glad we held onto Palms...with him PK,Zajac we at least have an anchor of some veterans next year?...interested in peoples thoughts about next years D though!

Big Buff will be available.
Also, Fitz said picks are cash in the NHL, so dont just look a FA for players.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm very content with the management of assets this season. Consider Hall, Vatanen, Greene and Simmonds, all players who didn't fit in long term. That's a 1st (assuming Arizona doesn't win the lottery), 2nd, conditional 3rd, 4th and 5th in just picks alone. Merkley seems like he could fit in easily as bottom 6. Bahl figures to be top 4. Kuokkanen figures to be middle 6 while also filling out the team size wise if not top 6. The new Q and the other dude from the Hall trade can't hurt either. Not bad at all.

I left Coleman out because one could make an argument of him figuring into plans if the turnaround is quick, but come on. Foote is a hell of a prospect who almost everyone is high on. That 1st doesn't hurt either as it looks like Vancouver is in good position to make the playoffs.

I still can't believe we got Foote. This dude is top line material. Coleman was a 3rd rounder, career AHLer. And we got Foote and a 1st.

Our team is going to be amazing in a few years.

Coleman is probably a 2nd liner on most playoff teams at this point in his career. He ends up on Tampa's 3rd because it's Tampa. Penalty killer, heart and soul guy on a bargain for another year. Let's not undersell him.

But I make this trade 10/10 times. I think he's destined for Hischier's wing.

Fazool, unless they are sure palms is going to stay I doubt they will give him the C

I have a feeling it will be Nico

Heck if ownership really wants to sell it they may make Hughes captain for the American hero side of it

Let's be honest. Palmieri is as consistent as they come. I can see the guy scoring 20-30 goals per year for 7 more years. I have no problem keeping him with the kids

Why isn’t anyone mentioning Fredrik Claesson?

It’s like getting Connor Carrick again! Not really good but it’s at least some defensive help.

The Domingue trade was just regarded and proof ownership is only about the money. Why trade a poopy goalie for a pooptier goalie? Which guy would help more in the Bing?

Maybe trying to increase vancouver's odds of making the playoffs, thus giving us their first round pick in this years draft?

I doubt that but it's a creative way of looking at it.

So two things.

1) I meant to say the Domingue trade was retarded and not regarded... Politically incorrect but accurate...

2) IF you want to do that trade why not at least get a pick back to make up for the 7th rounder we gave up for him? I can't imagine Vancouver really would care about that. Hell, push it off till 2021 like they pushed off the Kinkaid pick when we moved him.

Yes, I realize this totally doesn't matter but if we are comparing our New GM to our Old GM this tradedeadline was just meh.

hope we lose 3-2 with Cory making 30 great saves while we don't continue to drop in the draft. I want him to do well, but we can't keep getting points while the Ducks and Sharks tank on. Big difference in picking 3rd vs 7th overall..

The site has been poorly made for years, but Todd is a great blogger and the community is fun to be in.
