It's a great return for a player that cost the Habs nothing.

That's how fans must see it, really.

But with the market right now, I was hoping for a little more (2nd round pick).

I mean, Scandella got a 2nd +.

exactly. People keep going back to "any team could have had him for free, they're not giving up a 2nd for him." Any team could have had Scandella a month ago for a 4th. We got a 2nd and a conditional 4th.

STL were desperate with the loss of Jbow.
good deal, surprised they didn't package Thompson with him.
they could have had a 2nd 2 weekd ago imo, but he slowed down a lot in the past 2 weeks

They'll ship Thompson somewhere else...the Caps didn't need depth

i'll say it's good value. but i also agree it's a poop return because they'll do (frank) all with that draft pick, just like they'll do (frank) all with every other pick this year, just like they do (frank) all with every pick they ever make.

This right here. Was Gallagher the last impactful pick? Lehkonen is good but not impactful

Sergachev was obviously a good pick but he counts as much as McD would...

Thompson will get a 4th or a 5th in another deal, I guess.

Kovalchuk is a UFA and if he did not want to stay here, Bergevin had to trade him for the best offer before the trade deadline.

And that's what he did.

where did I say he wanted to stay?

I said weeks ago that Kovy was looking for a cup and that was not happening in Montreal.

There have been a few other good picks... Getting an NHL D (Mete) in the 4th round who plays in the league at 19. Galchenyuk remains a good pick (I would have preferred Teravainen myself back then), amongst the most productive players of his crop, behind TT and Forsberg. It got the Habs Domi too.

Primeau was a tremendous pick in the 7th round. Fleury, Andrighetto.

Too few, way too few. But it's not all a dumpsterfire.

I have big hopes for KK, Brook, Romanov, Norlinder, Caulfield and Ylonen.

i took a look earlier this year. of the players on the current roster drafted and developed by the organization, Lekhonen is by far the most impactful. followed by Mete. they're the only 2 Bergevin draft picks on the current roster. believe the lineup for the game against Washington last week did not feature a single player drafted by Bergevin. and yet the same guys in charge of drafting and development 8 years ago are still in charge today... Bergevin, Trevor Timmins, Martin Lapointe...

meanwhile, Bruins dradted 5 of their top6, not counting their dcore.
and they didn't need to draft top5 either. and they won a cup doing so.
