Completely agree. This team is only a couple points from a top-10 pick. Even if they make playoffs at this point it's going to be a short run.

I say sell unless they can get a Palmieri or equivalent type deal where they are here next year.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hall comes here over summer so don't force anything.

Hire a HC over the summer and re-tool.

Johnny and Brodie for Konecny and Ghost? Flames will have to retain some salary in that type of deal, but seems feasible

Johnny and Looch (30% retained) for Wood, Vatanen, Ty Smith + pick? Dunno if that's too rich?

Johnny and Looch (40% retained) for Wood and Devils unprotected 1st round pick. Just (frank) it, get Lafreniere/Holtz/Byfield

Johnny for Kaapo Kakko. New York loves'em some stars, a line of Johhny, Panarin and Zibanejad would complete their retooling. If they are set on keeping Kreider, might as well load up.

I was optimistic yesterday about the Flames, but I'm not anymore. They will not make the playoffs this year. They seem like they don't care and are just waiting until they can golf. Trade Gaudreau, he doesn't seem to want to be here anymore and wants to be closer to home.

Would be curious to know what is the league average TOI for 3rd pairings. Kinda think 10:42 and 12:25 is not that bad in a must win game minus your top guy?

Backs is being paid like a 2C and bottom line he is playing like a 3C, he makes 5.35m and he has a NTC. Not good!

Sounds like the writer of this blog, most followers of this blog and the guys on the FAN 960 are all in agreement.... Flames should stand pat or sell at the deadline!

Geeze Louis that game was hard to watch. I think all the johnny trade talk is warranted, but I'll throw another idea out there... how many more seasons is old man Gio going to be captain? I like Chucky, but not sure he's quite ready. Mony's gotten gritter this year, but I don't think he's an upgrade on Gio.

I'd probably hand it to Chucky next year - I'm an old school guy that wants his captain to DRAG his team along. Monahan coasts a little bit too much for my liking, though I do agree that this has been the most gritty season of his career. He's becoming a more effective 2 way guy

I personally don't love Ghosts contract and doubt PHI wants to move Konecny.
Looch has that franking NMC but if he would waive I would do that trade with NJ for their 1st all day.

I like the creativity to get rid of Looch. IMO, if they can't move him by retaining a poopload of salary, they need to buy him out...he's an anchor wherever they put him and he's obviously not giving any more room to JH or anyone else for that matter. It sucks but replace him with someone for 1million and the team would be better off.

I say if the team keeps sliding trade pending F.A’s for picks, prospects, young players with room to grow.

This team is more than a 28 year old Jason Zucker away from being a contender and by the time we can be he would be well past his due date.

We have a lot of solid 2nd/3rd liners throughout the lineup, acquiring another one isn’t going to put us over the top. The only improvement that can be made to this roster is if we can get a 1st line player/top pair defenseman. If we can’t make that happen we may be in for a rough re-tool over the next 2 years. Wether other teams have figured us out or if the team just lost their mojo, there needs to be a shakeup that either makes us better or worse. No lateral moves.

Flames Suck... I really think Johnny needs to be traded to where he wants to be. Flames need players who want to be here. We need to sell at the trade deadline and make the team better. This team is not fun to watch... let's get some good pieces on trade deadline that will help the team long run.
