Burning question here is: why would a team that drafts and signs many European/SwedishFinnish etc al players not have signed him if he was a very promising player. Late bloomer perhaps but how do we determine if he is another like Holm. Not able to even stand out in AHL.Perhaps Holm was ok with Wolves but given a tougher assignment to be competent with Icehogs, he was a fail.

It is a gamble. Bowman has to consider how many contracts for organization (50) and if he is bringing Galvas over.

AEL_FOX any word when Kurasaev returns from injury?

Kempney, Rutta were undrafted, Rundblad was a first rounder. Scouts make mistakes, sometimes scouts haven’t seen enough of a kid to make a projection as to whether a player is going to be an nhl player.

Scouts like weathermen have a job even when they are wrong. Just do not be wrong too often. Top scouts are worth their weight in gold. Ironically four GM's drafted or traded for Runsblad until of course determination was Runsblad = "runs bad."

If you didn’t have a pilot who would wake you up with PA announcements pointing out all of the interesting landmarks?
- Ogilthorpe2

Those announcements are only for half the plane, unless you did a u-turn so the other half can see.

Anybody else hear Gustafsson for Winnipegs C-RW. Jack Roslovic ?

If Gus isn't staying, Roslovic's RFA status makes him a really nice fit with possible departures and the expansion draft...

Me too! Also watching the Calgary Vancouver game tonight. Saw them doing a little piece on both of the Tkachuk brothers earlier.I said it once and I’ll say it again, the league has caught up to little dinky cat, and Stan gave him that big contract, for a smaller players he is not as good as Johnny hockey or Patrick Kane or Panerin when it comes to skating ability. And gets knocked off the puck easily. He’ll never score 40 goals again, probably too late now but I would trade him in a heartbeat to Calgary or Ottawa if either of those general managers were willing to deal either one of those boys.

Gaudreau’s had a bigger drop of than DeBrincat.

ADB will be fine, I certainly wouldn’t give up on him.

I expect Shalunov to join the Hawks next season and be given the Nylander treatment.

Right now we don't have enough good players to worry about who we protect.

Thanks for sharing more from this Powers article.

Of the 3 Russian forward prospects (Shalunov, Kayumov, Altybarmakyan), Altybarmakyan is supposedly the most electrifying talent. Not Panarin good as Breadman is one of a kind but possibly similar to Gusev?

Bring over whichever of them is motivated to cross the pond. Kayumov just signed a 2-year contract with Lokomotiv two months ago so he's not coming over (if at all) until 2022.

Shalunov is much older than these two (27 vs 21) and I believe had a chance to come over a few years ago but did not for whatever reason.

I'd invest in Altybarmakyan if I had to choose just one.

- AEL_Fox

Shalunov did come over in 2013/14. He started in Rockford and earned a demotion to Toledo (ECHL) and played the rest of the 2013/14 season down there. Then he decided to go back to mother Russia and we've been hearing about how he wants to give the NHL another shot ever since. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think “giving up on him” is the wrong way of looking at it.

IMO he’s still held in high regard across the league and if packaged with Strome the return on a potential trade, if it’s the right trade, could legitimately improve our overall roster. So to me it’s all about taking advantage of his current value and cashing in to improve our team. Not at all about giving up on him.

I could go even further and toss in Gus and Crawford too, or in separate deals. Those 4 players could net us a massive haul and improve the team moving forward.

Games above NHL-.500:

VGK. +7 (3rd place)

CAL. +6
WIN. +5 CHI
NASH +5
AZ. +4
MIN. +4 COL
CHI. +4 at Win

Hawks (6-2-2=14) and Wild (6-4-0=12) are the only teams of this group above .500 for the past 10 games.

In the absolute right deal sure. But I wouldn’t be so quick to move on from either, particularly Strome.

With the way Dach and Boqvist have come along, I think 12 and 17 would look good in the projected top 6 over the next few years.

Another Tribune beat writer for the Hawks - Jimmy Greenfield has apparently taken a buy out.

Not that it matters much - I don’t know for sure, but from the type of stories Greenfield did (stuff that didn’t really need game-day access), I’d say the beat writer doesn’t go on the road with the team.

Not much of the old McCormick “World’s Greatest Newspaper” left - and, given the history of new ownership of Alden Global Capital, it can only get worse.

Just asking:

Since this is the third time Boqvist has injured his shoulder this season - minor injuries or not - should they consider shutting him down for the rest of the season - and spend the time strengthening it?

He’s 19 - still growing into his body - no reason to take much of a chance of chronic injury (see: deHaan).

Meh! Dach is already a bust! 17 points in 48 games? That's bust in my books Pallie. Add to that he has only 5 minor penalties, he doesn't hit or fight. And Boqvist! He's already injury prone. Trade em all!!

Exactly my point. The Hawks would have won in 2010 with just about any goalie, because the rest of the team was stacked. If you play your cards right, there’s no need to ever pay top dollar for a goalie.
- Ogilthorpe2

That's how Detroit did it before the hawks. But I think it would be quicker and easier being competetive to have an elite goalie than stacking a team like the hawks were back then. This years team seems to suggest that.

Trade proposal: Pageau for Nylander.

Pageau is UFA after the season so possibly Ottawa would want to get something for him. Nylander is RFA after next season so Ottawa would have him for $865K which is important for a cheap budget team like Ottawa.

Pageau is a pretty good skater and scorer and a very good faceoff guy. Maybe he wouldn't want to resign with the Hawks or his salary demand would be more than the Hawks could afford - so maybe he would only be a rental and then the question is losing Nylander worth him as a rental. My thought is yes because I've kind of written off Nylander at this point so at the very least it would be an upgrade for the stretch run this season.

Thoughts?

- EbonyRaptor

In a heartbeat. But why would Ottawa not set their sights a bit higher?

I'm with you. I'm waiting and waiting for him to turn the corner but that may not come thisn
season.

However, with all of that said, here is a great article from Ben Pope about Nylander's success entering and exiting zones.

It might shed a sliver of optimism.

I stopped reading when it was said Nylander is fast. He's a little poop with a short choppy stride. I've never seen him blow by anyone.
