Hawks come in at #12 this morning on the Athletic's rankings for all 31 team's prospect pools.

No Dach, which I kind of figured based on the criteria but Boqvist headed up the list and resulted in this final comment from Wheeler...

The Blackhawks prospect tiers don’t need the usual elaboration because there’s so few of them. Instead of dividing every few players after the second tier, I see it as a much wider group. On one hand, that means there’s no huge drop-off into the prospect oblivion. On the other, it speaks to the ongoing hesitations I have with players like Regula and Entwistle. There are a lot of interesting players there, which should result in some hits. They just haven’t established themselves as top prospects yet. The decision to include Boqvist is a game-changer here because it’s a bottom half of the league pool otherwise.

7. Ryan Shea, LHD, 22 (Northeastern University)

If Mitchell is firmly in the conversation as one of the better defensemen in college hockey, Shea isn’t far behind. He has been stellar this year, turning a good college career into a great finish. As with Regula at the junior level, some of that has to do with age and experience as he is now the oldest defenseman on the Huskies. But I’ve been impressed by the growth in his mindset and a couple of his skills, too. Shea has always excelled as a smooth-skating defender who can move the puck up with clean outlets and a heads-up style. But he also moved from forward to defense as a teenager, he doesn’t have a great shot and his defending needed time to round out. This year, it has been nice to see him play a little more aggressively, building on his obvious poise to assert himself in games a little more consistently. I’ve seen him carry the puck more in all three zones, and try some higher-risk plays (which he has the skill to execute on) from the blue line in. His defensive game, which I through had begun to show some NHL qualities last year, has continued to blossom too. He’s an excellent rush defender, gapping up effectively and using his stick efficiently to disrupt carriers and force dumps or bobbles. And while he’s not a physical defender despite his pro size, Shea does a nice job anticipating puck movement in the offensive zone to intercept passes and step into lanes. He may not be quite dynamic enough to run the power play at the NHL level but he can get the puck from A to B — and that’s the name of the game these days.

Not sure. Have been waiting for him to come here and yell at me for posting someone else's rankings.

Would like to get his take though as far as where he might rank the same players.

Here's 11-18...

11) Kayumov
12) Nordgren
13) Vlasic
14) Saarela
15) Galvas
16) Krys
17) Hagel

Was also kind of surprised he doesn’t include any of the goalies. Even goes so far as to say “no goalies” in his opening statement on the Hawks.

That goodness Van took Madden and not Wise.

Are those his rankings on draft site again? I want to know why I can't move players from the unranked.

Where does Van rank and what's their top 10 look like?

13 right after CHI. Hoglander, Podkolzin and Madden were your top 3.

Sounds like Shea has some potential. Wonder why we haven't him much about him before. I noticed the Hawks have to sign him by August 15, 2020, otherwise he's a free agent. Anybody know if he has shown an interest in signing with the Hawks?

I believe Lankenin & Delia are too old, based on the parameters. Dach doesn’t appear as well, because he’s no longer a prospect, based on the article guidelines.

Wasn’t Wise - at one point - ranked a lot higher? Considered a “steal” as 3rd round pick?

Screw the guidelines - Dach is still a prospect.

He’s proven that he can hold his own in the Show - but not that he can score up here, or drive possession, like a 3rd overall must.

Tons of potential - still needs to be actualized.

He was, but he’s had a bunch of injuries that have taken large chunks of time away. Hopefully he gets and stays healthy for a while.

Agree with the last statement.

He is starting to help drive possession more and he has scored up here, he just isn't a PPG player like you'd expect from a 3rd overall...but having just turned 19, I'm happy with his debut and think he's headed in the right direction toward realizing his potential.
