No rebuild at this time. Let’s see how things go once Sid gets back. Jarry has been the glue so far. Line combos will change especially with players in and out of the lineup. Trade deadline is still over a month away. No need to be hasty. Just ride the hot goaltending and see where it takes us. |

I've been theorizing that GMJR is quietly trying to become the first GM NOT to have his team tank when the Crosby/Malkin window finally closes. And things were going along great so far, especially this season with all the injuries. After all, JR did hold onto that 1st round pick last season, and the young guys have been great this season. But unfortunately, Jake's injury not only changes the outlook for this season, but could also do so for the long term.
I haven't given up hope just yet, but man, watching Jake crash like he did the other night... seems like it was overdue because he's always in the fray somehow. On the bright side, how many teams can say they have Sid coming back soon? Um, NONE! GO PENS !! |

Jarry should have been named as an all-star. |

He didn’t really make a big splash until his shutouts in early December. By the time the casual hockey fan saw him playing, the voting was already underway. If any metro goalie drops out, I’d really hope Jarry gets in. He’s been having a Vezina year |

People thinking that Saad is coming, will be disappointed. 2 reasons: 1 he was brought back to elevate Towes back to "greatness." And Towes numbers have significantly increased since his return (though not as high as when Hossa was carrying that line).
And 2, correct me if I was wrong, but a big reason he left Colmbus, was his relationship with Tortz... Sully and Torz's coaching has similarities...
I do have an opportunity to see Saad play often and think he would fit well on the Pens if used correctly.
On a side note, I agree that Kovy should be signed as a no/low risk oportunity... But unfortunately, I don't think that is going to happen either.... - Beatnic57
It depends on if Chicago wants to retool and get younger and would it be better to give Saad his next deal. They're still talking like a team that thinks they can make the playoffs. Right now agree, he's not available and even if they sell they may keep him. If I were them, I'd see what he's worth because they need major changes.
Was that an issue? I thought CBJ was fine with him, they just weren't saying no to Panarin.

@Cousinskrid: there are tons of organizations that didn’t tank after their stars aged out. Detroit is a textbook example. GMJR would be far from the first GM to try to avoid a rebuild. No one ever wants to rebuild if they can help it. It’s a job hazard. |

This was good blog. RW hasn't mentioned Simon in a while so I'm surprised he had him on the 4th line because he usually supports him.
Also yes McCann with Sid please. Who's he really going to play with on the 3rd line that's better than playing with Sid? He's our most dangerous goal scoring wing after Rust (still can't believe I typed that) and it's more important to put our best players with Sid and Geno than for him to be at center. |

I honestly think losing Jake isn’t as big of a loss this year as it would normally be. Yes it’s huge, no we can’t replace his production. But, this team has an identity and that identity seems to be find ways to win against all odds.
Galch starts the season on IR
Game one lose Malkin
Lose Schultz.
Malkin returns lose Crosby Long term
Lose Bjukstad long term
Lose Dumo for essentially the season
Crosby returns lose Jake for the season.
All while playing in the toughest division and still the Pens are top five in the entire league.
JR will pull off a deal that no one is expecting and it will be exactly the right piece.
Guentzel will return for the eastern conference finals against Boston.

I will say you’re prob right about gmjr. Who heard McCann or bjugstad in last years rumours. If bjug could stay healthy I do like him a lot and still want to see him on rw. Hopefully him and Sid are back soon and then we will see how things go.
I gotta check out how hard the remaining schedule is. One thing I know is there are a lot of day time games to which isn’t good.
Edit: Jan and feb aren’t the easiest months. |

I think McCann is an ultimate facilitator with speed who can score timely goals even though he may not score a ton. I still hope for him at 3C once everyone is healthy and a replacement for Jake has been secured.

Even JJ plays somewhat "solid"... also think our needs should be wing. |

GMJR is thrilled with his defense he wasn't wasting 4mill in space on another rotating D man in scandella. Also, buffalo is looking to add a forward so maybe Galchenyuk is traded as soon as a Sid and Bjugs return. |

Ugh, think you might be right, that was a bargain.
Dillon on the Sharks top pair tonight, might be my top target now unless Brodie becomes available. |

Yah, I like that move. Frolik won't set the world on fire but he is a quality two way player. |

I think Dillon is better than JJ and Pettersson. He'd be top pair now, second pair later. I'd like to get a 2nd pair capable guy and let Pettersson and JJ battle for the last spot with hopefully Pettersson winning.
But Pens might not feel a need. |

Scandella turned into frolik. Solid moves considering they sit 2 dmen every single night.
Dillon playing above vlasic for some reason. I don’t see us getting any D. As said above gmjr loves his d corpse. But hopefully this spurs some movement to go after someone who is possible to re-sign or has term left. I racking my brain trying to figure out who the mysterious player will be. Maybe Rakell? |
