It's a great haul for Adam Larson...

Hauls for top tier wings always seem to disappoint. Just the nature of the beast

It beats getting Richard like what happened with Tavares.

Realistically this is a 1st and a decent prospect in Bahl for a position we have a strong need. If he can be a 2nd pairing guy then great. I don't care about the offensive numbers as long as he can clear the puck and transition out of the zone well.

The rest is likely just AHL help and another draft pick. That isn't much but is something we need.

Better days are around the corner...mostly because it can't get worse then this goat (frank) of a season.

I'm honestly surprised Ray even got this much for him. Hall is about as high-end of a rental as you can get, but at the end of the day is still just a rental, and this is what you get in that situation.

No legitimate contender was going to shake up their group that significantly and move established players, and no team with an outside chance was going to mortgage their future with little certainty of winning let alone re-signing Hall.

The whole thing is just sad. Incredibly disappointing way for his time with the Devs to end, and just the cherry on top of how beyond the pale this season has been.

Market is undergoing a adjustment in terms of what rentals are worth via trade. GM's are finally realizing how valuable their first round picks and high-end prospects are because they need cost-controlled talent in order to compete and stay under the salary cap

Im excited about Bahl... If he is physical with that frame. I keep thinking Zadorov but Zad might be more meaner.

Am I understanding the trade correctly here ?

If Arizona wins one round THIS year and he resigns with them we would get their first next regardless if it somehow became a lottery pick ?

I know that the first this year is lottery protected.

I honestly like him as a player and hopefully he proves everyone wrong about his low ceiling, but like Todd said if we dont hit on the picks it could be looking rough.

I think we should refrain from picking up elite LW, they ALL leave the team.

I could care less about his offensive game. We need someone to focus on what being a defenceman is. If is positioning is solid, I think he'll be top 4 for us.

What is everyone’s thinking about Ray Shero and his future as our GM?
Does he need to have Devils in playoffs next year which means spending unused Hall cash on other UFAs or else?
Are we in middle of 2-3 year rebuild again and he has time to add new coach and build thru draft instead of free agency?

My thought is first choice because ownership let him hire Hynes as his first guy he was able to grow with...think this time around we need real experience behind bench and get this going in right direction....have feeling Ray will see what coaches get let go after this year...if TB falls flat again maybe Cooper?...thoughts?

I know a lot of people are expecting a top prospect like Bowen Byram, Victor Soderstrom, etc. to be included in a Hall trade. I don’t see that happening. There is no talk of a contract extension being part of a trade agreement and, simply put, teams aren’t going to part with their Grade As for a few months of Hall.

I think we’re looking at a draft pick, a quality prospect with some flaws, and potentially another draft choice the Devils get if Team X goes on a deep playoff run and/or re-sign Hall.

I see a potential Hall deal being centered around Martin Kaut (Colorado), Klim Kostin (St. Louis), Jesse Puljujarvi (Edmonton), Bahl (Arizona). Those kinds of players I think are achievable. I don’t see a ‘can’t miss’, top tier guy being included and, if there is one, I doubt much (or anything) else comes with it.

Im talking is potential overall not just offensively and if he is good at defense now then it wont shock me if whatever we teach him makes him worse lol

Look at all the 6 foot 7 guys around the league some drafted pretty high and they are only bottom pairing guys.

My think is if he is another year or 2 at jr plus whatever in the ahl how many years is that ? 5 maybe ? Before he gets to the NHL and what will be the wear and tear at that point on that monsterous body? How many good years does he give us if everything goes perfectly?

Love the player type and the size and snarl but not the scenario in which he came.

Shero better make the best possible coaching choice of his life because I don't see how his job doesn't depend on it. Enough already with the former Pens BS.

And? What's so hard to understand that he expected this type of trade to happen but still wished maybe Shero could get more.

Oh god help us if we havent learned about rushing the rebuild.

Our main pieces from the "first rebuild" are hardly even here yet. Nico and Jack are 20 and 18 no need to push for playoffs in the next 2 to 3 years unless they are carrying us there at that point.

Hire a good coach and continue to draft and develope and make trades as they come up.

We could win the lottery this year and still have major holes in the roster we are like another 3 to 5 great pieces away from trading for players to make play off pushes.

This team needs to grow and learn together and overcome the hump themselves instead of bringing in players to do it for them. The NJD need to do it not some add on from another team, they can be that last piece when thw time comes.

He didn't expect this type of trade to happen, he expected a 1st and Bahl and MAYBE something else. He got 1st, Bahl, 2 U22 prospects, and the maybe pick. He explicitly stated that Hall won't get a top tier prospect, so why write a sentence saying that you're disappointed that Hall didn't get a top tier prospect?

I like Todd, but we gotta keep the bloggers on their toes.

For team Canada, Smith is top pairing, Bahl is second pairing and Byram third pairing.

We will see how the TOI shakes out we all know lines dont mean much as we have Hughes on the "fourth" line a lot and the first.

Im rooting for the kid I just think we would be catching lightning in a bottle if he became top 4. Its far more likely he doesnt reach his max potential but being 6'7 240 lbs and nasty will keep you around nhl teams for a long time look at Jamie Oleksiak and Keith Aulie they where NHL defense man at some point or are now but their ceilings where very limited and so where and have been their roles.

I don’t understand how the Devils are this bad. Pre-season, I thought their ceiling was sky-high, and expected them to compete for a top six spot in the conference

I don’t watch them much - is it coaching?? Because it seems like all their big players are underachieving terribly (Nico, PK, Hughes, etc)

Still in a good spot overall. Draft high, overpay for a goalie, hope the young kids get back on track

Everyone does this all the time...they can state that they don't expect something but realize that is exactly what they should have gotten and therefore be dissappointed.
Also possible that we set our expectations low for some things, and when it results in just that, we are dissappointed because we know in reality, we deserved or wanted better.
It's the whole faking to lower expectation so you won't be dissappointed, but in reality, you're gonna be dissappointed LOL
