Tanner, what do you realistically think this will cost the yotes without crippling them. Hall isn’t signing with anyone before Jan 1st so their risk of losing him is high

Hall would be a nice complementary piece if the Coyotes had a legit, play-driving 1C and a boatload of cap space. Since neither is true, I'd rather see them work on that. If Hayton turns into one, great, then they'd have 2 good top centers like the contenders do(Schmaltz isn't a 1C on a contender).

Strongly disagree. If the salary cap has taught us anything, it's that the traditional build to be a contender doesn't work. The Coyotes have sucked for years, and they failed to get the High End Elite player needed to build around.

They've added some nice pieces through the draft and trade that are good to build around - Dvorak, Keller, Chychrun - and via Strome, Schmaltz.

They've also got Soderstrom, Bahl, and Hayton coming.

But they have two goalies approaching 30 that are putting up the kind of WINS Against Replacement that you hope to get out of drafting a McDavid.

OEL, Kessel, Stepen, Hjalmmarson, Goligoski are approaching the end of their usefulness.

They've got the right mix of balance and youth to go for it. If they fail - and most teams do - they've got some nice building blocks that will make regrouping less painful. Hell, if they get even come close to Cup they'll have carte blanche to re-tank for that franchise player again in a few years.

Actually it's the opposite Tanner. If you want to build a team with an open window to contend over a significant period of time for multiple seasons, the only way to do that is to drat and develop and then supplement with trades and free agency. Drafting has to be the key method of building your team. The Yotes are in danger of being in the worst post a team can be. A good team that is not good enough that is not hamstrung by the cap. Chayka should recognize reality and start looking to trade veteran players for future assets.

I think the yotes could use hall. I don't think they do any crazy trade for a rental. I think they are targeting him because they don't have another winger coming up like hall. It would be nice to see the yotes get and extend a guy like hall. Players really do enjoy the desert. Many even train in the off season out there.

So back to crapping on the coach about line combo's/usage.
However you just stated that (once again) the Yotes dominated the corsi metrics, And lost, Just unlucky? So you want to change up the lines for more perceived scoring. So the team scores one more goal a game(maybe) and you think you have finally found the recipe for more scoring? However, With that one more goal scored with the new lines the team probably gives up another one as well. Also your goalies all of a sudden come back to earth. Do you really think either goalie is as good as their numbers indicate? Those numbers are BECAUSE of Toccet's lines and player usage. Not in spite of them. The Yotes are winning the only way they can/ Tight defensive games!

You got him!

Hall for Nick Merkley, Nate Schnarr, Kevin Bahl, a 2020 first-round pick and a conditional 2021 third-round pick.

Congrats Tanner, top notch analysis - you received a lot trash-talk, but you were just spot on!
