Halls replacement, McLeod had been sent back to bing
- dmarsden2988

He had a solid game last night, we can’t have that around here. Send him back to Binghamton where his development will rot like the rest of the pieces we put in that black hole.

They probably have a game in Bingo that he can play, it doesn't mean that much.

So I have a few thoughts that I want to bounce off of you guys and see what you think.

1. What are your opinions on Nas? Personally, I'm on the fence. It seems like he's done a fair job so far and the guys seem to really play for him. Do you think he takes over permanently, if not who would you like to see?

2. I've read some things, obviously speculation, but there's some rumors that Palms might be on the chopping block as well. I think that would be a really bad move. He seems like a really good locker room guy, a good guy to help the younger players develop. He's not a superstar but he's a goal scorer and I think the benefits of him being shipped off arent going to outweigh the negatives.

3. Blackwood has been really solid the last few games. I've seen some hate on him from fans and "analysts". Usually that he isn't as good as his best games and I dont think that's fair. I feel like he can be a really solid #1 if he's given a better defense in front of him. What do you guys think?

4. Lastly, do you guys think the lack of point production for the young guys is a bad sign? It seems to me like they play well, for the most part, but the points are just not coming. Points are obviously important but maybe I and other fans have too high of expectations that we set for them. We see guys like Marner, Matthew's, McDavid and so on and feel like they should be producing like them when in reality this are special guys who, in McDavids case, are generational players.

1. hard to judge him with this roster/defense. i'm not a huge fan.
2. it's like every player over 28 that is good should be traded.. for a mystery 2nd round pick that MIGHT be good someday. stupid. Keep Palms. He's one of the few good/consistent forwards we have that can take a hit and not fall over, while also having the ability to score goals. crazy thing is that happens a lot in hockey.. the whole hitting/scoring thing.. important stuff. KEEP PALMS.
3. Blackwood is 22 years old. I would not at all mind a competent veteran partner with him and run a tandem next year. MAYBE he can be a #1 but it's too early to feel confident in that.
4. None of our players were ever projected to be on the level of Marner, Matthews, McDavid, so I don't expect Nico or Hughes to be hitting 80pts any time soon, let alone 120 lol. I'm not worried about them, but I don't have high expectations. If we can get 70/60 out of them I'd be happy. I don't think it's too far out of reach for at least 1 of them to be a 70pt player.

Cant disagree with any of that. As far as coaching I'd like to see someone who can develop this team. We have a bunch of young guys, guys that I'd prefer get playing time. I felt like Hynes was similar to Pete in that he favored older guys. I do think that Hughes has the potential to be 70+ pt producer but its early and there hasn't been any consistency in the lineup or on the team.

Just because we're going to miss the playoffs doesn't mean we have to trade every player worth a damn. There are guys that need to go but Palmieri isn't one of them.

Wouldnt shock me at all if Ray had heavy interest in this Bahl kid as he plays on the 67 with 2 of our prospects maybe even three so they have likely seen him enough.

I think he is an interesting prospect but not one I would be happy building a trade around unless he came with 2 unprotected firsts. He just seems like a top 6 guy but im not a scout.

I think Blackwood is more then capable.

I ask what do you think all these goalies these fans are adding into the trades would look like behind the Devils?

Also how many bottom dwelling teams are rolling with a 23 year old goalie ? I think if he was poop they would just role with an older poop goalie.

I like the idea of a stop gap and maybe Rantaa is that but I dont think we are looking for our future starter in any trades.

Hockeydb says matthews has yet to hit 80 pts he has had missed games every season though.

Marner hit 94 last year so not 120 pts players yet either.

We would be rolling with a older poop goalie but he’s so bad he’s in the Bing right now.

I like Blackwood but he needs some help and shouldn’t be pushed into such a heavy workload on a team that is hard on their goalies.

That said, I sure don’t want a goalie anywhere near a major piece in the Hall trade. Just deal with it as best as possible until the offseason and see who’s available.

Agreed on the goalie front. Blackwood is going to be the goalie of the future but he needs a guy who can start 30 games in tandem with him. There will be goalies available in free agency, trading for one just seems like wasting potential value here.

I agree. There's no need to trade for one especially since we are obviously not going anywhere this year.

1- he’s going to get the rest of the season to show if he deserves the job. I’m not a fan, but he deserves his shot.

2- no reason to trade Palmieri, he’s one of the few solid shooters we have and he’s on a very friendly cap hit.

3- Blackwood is our goalie, find a solid back up in free agency, no need to spend trade capital on a goalie.

4- I’m more concerned with the Devils ability to develop their young players than the talent level they have. Get the right coaches in there and these players will come along.

I think us Devil fans have to start to realize we are NOT getting any teams "top" prospects for Hall, especially if it's just a rental. Bahl is not a bad prospect and might not be a bad starting point if the Devils want more pieces like a 1st round pick and another prospect. I just can't see them getting a Soderstrom, Hayton, Timmons, Newhook, Byram, Knight type of prospect in this trade. If Florida offered Borgstrom, Heponiemi and a 1st plus a condional pick I think Shero would take that even though there is no defensive prospect coming back unless a team like Arizona offered Bahl as part of their package (which could include a NHL player (maybe Garland?) and picks).

Just rember...I TOLD YOU SO...u gave up a top defensive d-man on a great contract and would be lucky to get that now as hall is a ufa...I remember people saying there will be war for him...wingers aren't worth that much esp ones getting closer to 30...

I checked earlier today and I believe Bingo's next game is the same as the big club on Wednesday. You figure McLeod has his best game ever as a Devil and they send him down

No, not really. Whatever we get in this trade will still be worth way more then a over-paid middle pairing defenseman in Larsson. Most "smart" oiler fans by now should realize Larsson really isn't that good. Now Hall is great he just doesn't want to play for a rebuilding team like the Devils are now and like Edmonton was for the past decade. Sorry but you guys are stuck with Larsson!

It's probably just one of those transaction things in which it takes time to send a player down to the AHL so they do it preemptively to clear a spot if a trade happens and they bring an extra contract in. He might be sent down but still with the team.

They havent sent him down, it was just a paper move according to everyone on twitter. He'll be "called back up" and still be with the team come Wednesdays game
