Maybe the truth would help they kept thinking they were contenders

The Calgary Flames drastically overachieved last season and made moves based on being able to repeat that, rather than improving the depth chart, now they're paying for it.

Is Mark Jankowski the best player from the 2012 draft yet? Button and McGuire told me he would be by the time he was 26. Still have one year I suppose.

They tried to improve the depth chart but a couple trades fell through.

So simple:

Gaudreau and Jankowski for Reinhart and Ristolainen.

Not saying any of the coach’s didn’t deserve to get fired. But if peters has lost the room that is 3 coach’s in the last four years. Should we start questioning wether it’s the players in the room and ask ourselves is this team really good enough to not just make the playoffs but win a cup as assembled.

Can't blame Button for that one. You'd say dumb poop too if you were huffing caustic chemicals

This isn't (entirely) accurate:

1) Attempted to deal for Kadri, that fell through because Kadri stupidly thought he would stay a Leaf for some reason.
2) They had no cap space to maneuver given the RFA market and time it took to sign Chucky.
3) Tried to move Frolik at the deadline last year and the NHL biffed it

They did overachieve last year for sure, but I don't think Tre had the room this year to work things out in any other way than he did or attempted to do.

There are 3 scenarios in my mind this year:

1) If by the TDL they are in a playoff position (still wildly possible despite all the negativity right now), they had better load up
2) If they are on the cusp, they should consider shedding a player or two and get some draft assets in return where they can
3) If they are way out of it, move everyone you can for picks, clear your cap space and hit the draft and FA hard with renewed assets next year.

I agree with all of this and I might add that the team could benefit from a change in special teams coaches.

Hard to believe they are only 3 back from third in the Pacific and the second wildcard, but I don't see them being able to turn it around and if they aren't in a playoff spot by American Thanksgiving, the percentages say no playoffs and I don't think this team is capable of pulling a Blues from last year.

I truly don’t know where the problem is, but as much as I assume it is “between their ears” didn’t Peters’ Carolina teams lead the league in the shots for category yearly but also struggle to find the back of the net? As much as the pundits are playing up the fact the we are through 3 coaches in 5 years and it’s the players that should be fired. Maybe last year had nothing to do with Peters, and had everything to do with transition from another truly awful coach. If I’m Treliving I’m scanning what coaches are available that aren’t named Babcock.

correct.

year after year after year of dominating corsi numbers that lead to mediocre results at best.

Finishing ability was very hard to find, except for Aho and Teravainen in Peters' last year, and Aho said that he and TT were given free reign to do what they wanted in the offensive zone that season instead of the structure that Peters imposed on the other players.

The Blues are the extreme example - I agree the odds are not good, but last year, 30% of the playoff teams were not in a playoff spot come American Thanksgiving...

It was an anomalous year for sure, but that 5 of 16 teams made it despite not being in as of Thanksgiving was rather impressive. This team is capable of going on a run, we saw it last year, so hopefully a switch flips in the near future...

Otherwise, aim for Byfield and settle for Lapierre...

Todd, something gotta give .....you say that now? Are you vying for the Capt Obvious gig at Hotels.com. The fact that the Flames were single-handedly dismantled by MaCkinnon must have been some indication that the team was......well incomplete. If not for the heroics of Smith, the defeat would have been more catastrophic, and in retrospect, his heroics did more damage to the development of the team. An average performance would have forced the hand of the organization to realize that their master plan for NHL dominance was not going to work. It's not that the team is loosing, it's how they are loosing, PK, PP, 5v5. I've seen to old ladies fight harder for the last marbled rye at the local deli than I've seen the Flames fight for loose pucks. The team is out coached at every level, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Management's decision to make the team smaller as they continue to draft diminutive skill players as they get turned into mashed potatoes when giants like Paraynko run them into the boards, or look at them with a mean face. Drafting busts like Jankowski, Bennet and Baertchi are indicators that perhaps the wrong Captain is steering the ship. Like most big ships, it takes a lot of time and space to change the direction of super tankers. I'm the first to admit that I'm not a "hockey professional", but I've been playing and watching hockey for over 30 years, and agree that things shoulda changed last year.

It was Feaster and Weisbrodt that made this statement about Jankowski.

The only "loosing" going on here is your grip on the facts. Gaudreau was drafted by a different GM, as was Janitor and Sven. Sven turned into Andersson which was a nice little move actually. Nice save Tre. Yes the Carolina trade has its imperfections, but we did get some quality there.

Monahan and Jonny need to be scrutinized. We need to perhaps consider a move or two there. Not sold on Peters either but at which point is it the player's time for reckoning? The aforementioned need scrutiny.
