My buddy fished with Eric Cairns yesterday. Pretty much trumps all hockey news I’ve heard in awhile.

My friends in ND just went pheasant hunting with Pat Verbeek. They always ask me if I want to go but I prefer eating pheasant as to hunting it

Worked with binnington so there’s always a slim possibility. But if the return was worth it I’d still take the chance.
- 10inchTerror

I think Binnington is more of a comparable for how MM came into the league as opposed to Jarry if you look at the numbers

Would Jarry really command $3mm? MM could easily get $7 on the open market.
- sammy87

How many starters are under 3M? Even decent backups make close to that.

The Pens just cleared out a dman because there was a logjam. Adding one only causes issues when Letang returns. JJ is clearly not getting moved this year.
- Rinosaur

Technically, we have a logjam at forward as well, so any trade for an upgrade is going to involve someone going the other way.

IDK....But would Jarry really get that much being so unproven?

All I am saying is if I were Murray I would be looking at a 7x7 minimum deal.

Simon, ZAR, Rust, Galch....they can all go for an upgrade.

I saw a fancy graph that showed pitt in the top tier of the league in man games lost to injury, which I’m sure they are up there every year. (I’d post to make rw happy but I don’t know how) I think that’s one reason Washington is so consistent. They seem to have very durable stars. This is a pretty relaxing stretch of games. Can’t wait for the season to get tough.

Pheasant hunting is pretty fun. Get to shoot your gun a lot, cool watching dogs hunt. I’m not a great hunter. I try, but you can’t bullpoop and drink beer in the process. Fishing is more my thing.

I’m not against taking Dominik Simon off the top line. He’s not a bonafide top line or even top six player.

Never thought I would hear this. Especially the 'he is not even a top six player' part.

Really only took fifteen games to realize this, one can only hope Sullivan realizes this also.

I would demand anyone to give me evidence to the contrary but we all know that it would be BS anyway. So I am not going to listen.

Well good talk then.

Anyways, Simon is a middle six guy. Produces well at 5v5 but has limitations as a scorer that can make hims stale getting top 6 minuets night in and night out. And I think that's the issue in general with this team right now. We have a team full of middle six wingers and Jake Guentzel. You can't really rely on any of these guys to consistently pick up the goal scoring slack. Now, I think people underestimate the scarcity of true top 6 goal scoring wingers, and it's extremely rare for a team to have 4, but it'd be nice to have more than just one. Right now we just have G following the Kessel trade.

And I think that goes a ways to explaining our PDO. Yeah, our shooting regression will obviously regress to a mean at some point, but I also am unsure of how high that mean is due to our lack of finishers. Maybe things will change as guys settle in. Galch has all the tools and Kahun has a lot of upside. We'll see. The depth is good but the lack of top end talent could sink us in the long run.

My dads old Golden was the poop as pheasant and grouse hunting. Once they get birdy it’s (frank)in cool watching them work. He flushed out many a pheasant when I lived back in PA.

True but it’s a far cry away from the team of mostly 4th liners we are used to recently. And fortunately with a couple true superstar centres to elevate people a lot of blemishes are covered up.. for now lol

Oh I agree. The overall team construction is certainly the best it's been since the last Cup. And I truly do love our depth. I just think we need one more legit finisher getting top 6 minutes to jump into the top tier contender category. There's a possibility this could come in house. I'd LOVE to see Kahun or Galchenyuk make that jump.

Anyone notice how much Kessel is "Philling" the net so far this year? Not to say it stays like that, but he's on like a 50 point pace. He has 1 even-strength goal in 16 games (only 3 total). The only thing Phil is doing in the desert is playing in front of goalie with a ~.940%. Keller is a young Phil, and Phil is now a poor man's Kessel.

I'm also not saying that Kessel isn't uber-talented, but it's laughable to act like he slumped less than Sid or Geno, or that they're not going to put the puck in the net on the PP. It's also laughable to pretend he's on their level. He's 2nd tier and will never have another point-per-game season.

The Pens just need to find a way to get the puck to the net on the PP. I watched them move it very, very well (as they usually do). However, after 20 seconds of that, someone tried a sharp angle shot to see if the puck squirted loose. Just get it past the first shotblocker and prepare to reset if need be. Why can't anyone take a one-timer from the right side? Schultz is not having his best year at getting pucks through, but he's far and away better than Letang at this one aspect. They'll figure it out, but I am glad to see someone that wants to be a shooter on the right side (Galchenyuk).

It’s prob a lot easier to score on one of the lgs top pp’s and with two other elite lines to defend on a team. I expected a pretty sizeable regression on his part just due to roster construction.
