There has to be a give and take. If the top players want more freedom then games like this can’t happen. They have to show responsibility in their own zone. Almost 60 shots on net, completely unacceptable.

That was main point of JC's collective comments.

And you have to wonder what things will look like in March/April with Ian Mitchell

Teams struggling to attain .500 record this season and next: Blackhawks, Bears, Bulls, White Sox. Perhaps Cubs tumble?

lets get something straight the hawks are a defensive hindenburg when they play conservative offensively or not...might as well open it up a bit so they at least have a chance to outscore the opponent...

as of now they can't win low scoring games...to much pressure being placed on crow and lehner...

Lehner is as tough as they come, but wouldn't be surprised to see Crow in LV. Lehner took one hell of a beating. Come back with Robin versus Nashville. Think it will be an entirely different game, the second go around.

Agree with your viewpoint. Almost forced to open it up a little, in order to stand a chance of winning.

Kudos to Toews tonite for dropping the gloves with no hesitation. Not a big fight person, but the situation called for that type of response.

I didn't see that play. did Saad have possession of the puck when Muzzin checked him? According to the radio call, it sounded like Saad was looking for the puck, he did not touch it.

i would like to know how long lehner can continue posting .940 save% facing 35 plus shots a game...that is insane and not sustainable...

with out him and craw this team is burried dead last...

leafs thoroughly whipped their ass in the dzone tonight...just like the preds and just like other top teams will do...oh and here come the knights and preds on the road...

over under in combined sog against in these two games...i will say 80 and go with the over

- bogiedoc

Per Lehner’s own comments on this very subject, he did it for 3 straight years in Buffalo. So....

5x5 naturalstatrick

Corsi Tor 55 Chin38
Scoring chances Chi 24 Tor 22
HDSC Chi 12 Tor 4

Most Toronto SATs and SOGs were from above the circles 5x5.

- StLBravesFan

So SOG are not as important as HDSC. In this instance it appears Toronto went 4 for 4 on HDSC while we went 5 for 12. So we should blame our forwards for not converting more.

Most significant stat in 4-1 victory @ Wolves was Carlsson #1 star. Holm, McCioshen, Gilbert, Carlsson gives them a fairly solid top four dmen. Tuulola is a descent player who can offer a little bit if everything; he will check and is an offensive style. Kyrs iis the weak link however he has NHL ability in certain areas of his game.

I have to suggest if Boqvist isent back then King has to rotate whom is a healthy scratch or go with 7 dmen. Carlsson could get a look on recall - it is time - instead of Gilbert Or maybe an NHL look at McCoshen, a former NHL #1 (you guessed that, right).

Wedin had his #3 goal and thiird star. He may be deserving a recall look see.

I would like to know more about the progress in Soderlund and Entwhistle. I beleve that Re Johnson has been playing well. The brothers Sikura both have scored
Six times. Looks like Icehogs have a strong quick skating team.

Didn't get to watch tonight, but from the looks of it, looks like the team did their best to blow it?

Lehner for Vezina.

- TommyHawk

No the stats say otherwise. We didn’t give up too many HDSC but we did spend too much time in our zone. That needs to be fixed but could change when Murphy gets back.

They have opened it up a bit, last 2 games by the appearance of it. More offense to appease the score hounds, but worse defense play. So it’s a catch 22.

Blackhawks Holidays redefined;

Halloween: scary defense is all year not just spooky once early season

Thanksgiving that we have a few really good players amidst a rebuildi on the.fly

Christmas presents is the nice mix of prospects in our farm system

New Year's celebration is more an aberation than an actual feel good party time. We are happy to see some entertaining hockey although it is in small doses. Maybe we can best some team handily if they are sleepwalking after too much fat cat partying.

Ground Hog Day is whether it is official that we are now in not a playoff race but a scramble for a top lottery draft choice
finish.

Valentine Day every fan loves their team blemishes and all

St Patrick's Day is to wear the green color
Blackhawk apparrell and drink green beer

April Fool's Day is to beat a team in their playoff chase even if we stopped competing for a playoff berth long ago

July 4 whoo pee look at our draft pick and trades

Hawks need to learn how to finish better.

Goals by period - Hawks - opponents

1st - 18-10 - pretty good
2nd - 10-15 - pretty bad
3rd (non-ENG) - 13-22 - terrible - 1.29/game given up

Is it just me, or are the Hawks awful defensively when the opponent pulls their goalie?

Only 1 GA 5x6, but 2 when on a PK with the goalie pulled (4x6). Two of those 3 were last nite, I think.

If you add eng's, it's 17-28. Still rough. It was said their 2nd periods were the worst. It's bad, but closing the game out is the problem.

I'm not even talking about goals allowed. To my very untrained eye, they just look lost. They can't pass. They can't get the puck out of the zone. Aside from the Van game, I have not seen them execute defensively 5 on 6 very often.

the leafs are lightening quick once they get the puck, transition to offense and get it in the off zone...numerous times in the last half of the game the hawks played an entire shift chasing the puck...

Per Edzo's comment on Gus: “his strength is not defense.” that give away resulting in nylanders second goal early in the 3rd can not happen and it gave the leafs a huge jolt..

he plays better in spurts and then sure enough at some point the big brain fart happens and crow/lehner have to make the big save but they can't get em all.

murphy can't come back soon enough; this team cannot survive a kid offensive minded dman in bokie and 27 year old off minded dman and a clear defensive liability in gus...

my guess bokie goes back down and gus stays (minimal trade value)

When the Hawks hunker down, it's "Katie, bar the door!" They didn't need to bar the door. Needed to start skating again, and catch Leafs overextending themselves. Another great W last nite, though. Hawks can beat LV also. Knights are only 2 games above .500.
