Is there a reason other then coaching that is telling Rielly to skate past 2 defenders on the powerplay only to pass it backwards past those defenders again to a guy that is 30 feet behind the play?

I do not like this teams powerplay at all, and I can't quite put my finger on it. It seems the entire strategy is to pass pass pass shoot through a crowd and hope for a rebound? The entire flow is so slow and predictable, the shots are coming from unreasonable areas and half of them don't even get through.

The entire setup seems to neuter Marners playmaking ability, the only time it seems to be successful is when Matthews picks one or the odd rebound/deflection falls into place.

I watch a lot of games, you watch a team like Tampa and their powerplay seems so dynamic and fast compared to Toronto's. By the time the one timer hits everyone on the ice seems lost from two passes ago, and the one timer can seemingly come from anywhere on the ice.

Toronto's seems to be so amateur hour compared to the talent level. And they do not seem to have even the slightest desire to change it. The ol Babcock keep working at the same poop and it will eventually happen theory has trickled to the PP.
