Brightside is that, despite the inevitable regression, the team is doing relatively well being on the right side of chance generation. With the exception of the New Jersey game where they were handily out-everything'd, the rest of the games have had the team winning the dangerous chance battle. Overall scoring chances have been in the Oiler favour twice, dead even once and the opposition's favour twice.

Pretty much tells the tale we all knew: this is a bubble team.

All I’m seeing from people are “Oilers have just beat up on the weak teams so not a big deal”.....isn’t that what playoff teams are supposed to do is beat up on said teams? I’m not saying we are playoff bound but those are the games you gotta have

There is a lot of talk about regression in a lot of areas and how they'll fall but how about the things that can even that out? They still have 3 European players getting used to NA style that could get better, lots of newcomers all trying to develop chemistry in the bottom 6, and the whole team is still getting used to new coaches systems. If they can start producing better results in bottom 6 and 5 on 5, that could go a long way in reducing regression in special teams and solid defense and systems can help the goalies stay on track.

Not to mention they lost a top 2 defender in game 1 and are still winning, he will be back at some point to help. The most important thing is they are finding ways to win games instead of finding ways to lose them. Team morale and early success will go a long way is creating a confident team for the rest of season. Sure they have had a light schedule compared to what it could be, but every point matters and they could've lost any of those games, and would have in prior seasons. Some regression is inevitable, but they know where they need to improve and if they work in those areas they can continue to succeed.

True, need to beat the bad teams...but its hard to make a fair assessment until they start to play some playoff teams. Super easy October schedule but they are taking advantage of it.

I’m not sure this is a playoff team but I do know the Oilers of the past would have found a way to Oiler it with a schedule like this.....I will enjoy the ride while it lasts because it’s been a while since we have had something to cheer about in the first month

Don't cry for me, Rafi'tina...

Pig is a dangerous and nasty trade partner, has a good feeling and intuition for the fantasy game... and is there at midnight to steal the best players on the free market.

But hey, at least I gave you Dubnyk. Didn’t he get you a shutout this afternoon?

One thing I noticed. I’ve had all three players that have had four goals in a game so far this season. Mantha, Pastrnak, and Neal (although he was on waivers at the time). I’m hoping it continues on with this.

That’s actually quite a feat.

Care to guess who the next one will be?

Only if Seguin gets an assist on each goal.

However, Larsson at this point is nothing more than a #3 methinks. Even then, that may be generous.

IF and that’s a big IF we can sneak into the playoffs I’m willing to bet that Oilers fans will start to appreciate him once again.....he has battled through some injuries and the death of his father whom he seemed very close to so all those things considered I can maybe understand some regression.....I’ll see how this season plays out once he gets healthy to see where he is at before I cast an opinion
